State News/Mike DeWine sworn in as Governor of Ohio
Mike DeWine was officially sworn in as the Governor of Ohio this morning during a brief midnight ceremony at his farm in Cedarville.
Jon Husted also took the oath of office as Ohio’s Lieutenant Governor, surrounded by family at the church they attend in suburban Columbus.
Huron County/No grand jury decision in WR Superintendent sexual assault case
An Erie County grand jury has reached a rare stalemate in deciding whether or not to indict sexual assault charges against Western Reserve High School Superintendent Rodge Wilson.
In a quote reported by the Norwalk Reflector, Sandusky Police Detective Eric Costante said he’s never seen anything like it before…in talking about the indecision by grand jury members.
The incident in question allegedly involved Wilson and a juvenile victim at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
Erie County/Sandusky City Schools brief lockdown
Sandusky City Schools commenced a district-wide lockdown Friday morning because of a suspicious voicemail left the night before.
The Sandusky Police Department was called to help investigate.
The lockdown was lifted a little after 11:00 am Friday without incident.
Huron-Lorain County/Drug-related crashes
A man from Akron and a woman from Wakeman face charges from separate crashes on Route 2 in western Lorain County.
The Highway Patrol says both occurred Thursday night, and both were drug-related.
Both people were taken to the hospital.
Erie County/Sandusky teen says he was attacked
A Sandusky teenager told authorities he was hurt Friday night after being attacked by a group of young men who threatened to rob him.
According to the Sandusky Register, police found the 17-year-old on the ground in the 500 block Putnam Street.
The boy said he did not know his attackers.
State News/Flu activity increasing in Ohio
The Ohio Department of Health says flu activity is increasing and widespread throughout the state for the first time during this flu season.
The number of flu-associated hospitalizations is also rising…with about 340 new hospitalizations during the first week of January compared to around 170 during the week prior.
It’s not too late to get a flu shot, according to the state health department; recommending that everyone six months-old and older get one.
Erie County/Sandusky shutting down Jackson Street Pier
Starting today, the City of Sandusky is closing down Jackson Street Pier to the public as construction work begins on an improvement project.
Improvements on their way to Jackson Street Pier include a pedestrian boardwalk, waterfront swings and enhanced handicapped accessibility…which is all expected to be in place and open by spring of 2020.
