Ottawa County/Child sex crimes

Two Ottawa County men are headed to prison for unrelated child sex crimes.

According to the Sandusky Register, 27-year-old Cody Habel has plead guilty to the sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl; with Habel facing as much as 33 years in prison following an investigation by Port Clinton police.

25-year-old Matthew Shiffert could go to prison for 21 years after giving a guilty plea to child pornography charges…after an investigation that began in Georgia and was turned over to the Ottawa County Sheriff.

 

Ottawa County/Missing boy found safe

A 12-year-old missing Oak Harbor boy has been located safe and sound.

Evan Hall was found in Perkins Township on Thursday after he was reported missing to authorities on Wednesday.

 

Local News/Fisher-Titus and MetroHealth collaboration

A collaboration between Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk and MetroHealth…

They’ve announced they’re joining forces on multiple projects including the medical direction of North Central EMS in Milan and the operation of services involving ground critical care.

MetroHealth will now be serving as the Medical Director of Fisher-Titus’ North Central EMS service, in Huron and neighboring counties…managing procedures for patient care, as well as staff education.

 

State News/DeWine picks Gardiner for education position

It appears new leadership will be coming to higher education in Ohio.

Governor-elect Mike DeWine has nominated Republican State Senator Randy Gardner of Bowling Green, to be the next Chancellor of Higher-Ed.

 

Huron County/City of Willard hosting Ohio Flags of Honor this summer

The City of Willard has put out a “Save the Date” reminder about an event this summer…

They’ll be hosting the Ohio Flags of Honor Memorial at Willard City Park the weekend of June 28th through 30th.

The police department is hiring for a full-time officer…applications available at City Hall, the police station or on the city’s website…with a deadline of February 12th to apply.

The city will be picking up Christmas Trees next week.  Residents may place their tree in the lawn on their regular trash days; un-bagged and without a stand.

 

State News/Winter driving safety tips

With winter-like weather finally arriving, the Ohio State Highway Patrol says to prepare a winter weather car kit, if you haven’t already.

The kit should contain a number of items including an ice scraper, jumper cables, cell phone charger, first aid kit, water and food.

The patrol says there were over 22,000 crashes on snow, ice or slush covered roads last year…resulting in 42 deaths and over 5,500 injuries.
