Bellevue/Student pedestrian struck by car

A Bellevue High School student was taken to a Toledo hospital after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near the school Wednesday morning.

According to Bellevue police, the crash occurred at the intersection of Northwest Street and Oakland Avenue between the student and a vehicle driven by Scott Stokes of Bellevue.

 

Huron County/Wakeman injury crash

An Oberlin man was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Huron County.

The State Highway Patrol says 63-year-old Oliver Tingler was driving east on U.S. 20 in Wakeman Township when he was hit by a freightliner driven by an Iowa man that went left of center.

Tingler was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Cleveland Metro.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected.

 

Local News/Flu deaths

Flu season is picking up steam nationwide, and in Medina County, health officials are reporting four flu-related deaths since this fall.

According to the centers for Disease Control, flu activity is now widespread in 24 states.

 

State News/Medical marijuana

State officials are looking at petitions that are asking that medical marijuana be used to treat additional conditions.

Those medical ailments include opioid addiction, autism and depression.

Medical marijuana can be recommended now by physicians for illnesses such as AIDS, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, cancer, epilepsy.

 

Erie County/Suspended Perkins Police Officer says he’s not guilty

The Perkins Police Officer on unpaid leave after being accused of allegedly assaulting a female Danbury off-duty officer he’s in a relationship with…is claiming his innocence.

According to the Sandusky Register, the attorney for Officer Thomas Sheridan says his client feels like he’s not guilty of any sort of violence against Officer Carolyn DeMore; which allegedly occurred this past weekend.

 

Local News/Food Bank fundraiser

The Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio has partnered with a Cleveland Clothing Company, to fight hunger in style.

Now through Friday, January 25th you can pre-order two limited-release T-shirts or a hoodie, to support the 2019 Harvest for Hunger campaign.

Proceeds from each item purchased will provide a minimum of 30 meals to families, children, and seniors struggling with hunger in the region.

Second Harvest hopes to sell enough “gear” to cover 10,000 meals.

 

Ottawa County/Port Clinton to welcome Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure

More than a thousand bike riders from across the country will visit Port Clinton in June for the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure.

Port Clinton High School will become the first location in the event’s 31-year history to host a three-night stay.

Cyclists will begin arriving on Monday, June 17th, and will depart on Thursday morning, June 20th.

The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure is a noncompetitive event that is billed as a fun, family-oriented activity for cyclists of all ages.
