Huron and Erie counties are now under Level 1 snow emergencies.
For the most part, main roads are in decent shape, but some secondary roads may still be hazardous, due to blowing and drifting snow, plus ice. Sandusky and Seneca counties remain under Level 2 snow emergencies.
Some area students returned to school today, others didn’t.
School officials in Bellevue, Clyde-Green Springs, Margaretta, Perkins and Seneca East were forced to cancel classes again. Edison, Monroeville and Willard each went on a two-hour delay.
Officials spent much of yesterday dealing with a water main break at Norwalk High School.
The break caused an already-rescheduled boys basketball game between the Truckers and the Shelby Whippets to be moved to Shelby High School.
The city of Vermilion has issued a boil advisory until further notice, due a number of water main breaks in the city.
Tonight is when Huron city leaders will deliver a ‘state of the city’ address.
It’s scheduled to start at 7, at the Huron Public Library. City residents are encouraged ask questions during the presentation.
Macy’s has announced plans to cut 2,500 jobs this year.
Officials with the department store chain say that, and other moves will help save $100 million. Macy’s also plans to close five stores, but none in Ohio. The announcement comes, after a strong holiday shopping season.
Plea negotiations continue, in the case of a Lancaster, Ohio man accused of robbing a Willard grocery store.
Michael Fette is facing multiple felony charges, connected to an August hold-up at Missler’s IGA. No one was hurt during the armed robbery, and Fette was caught a short time later. Willard police recovered a large amount of cash, a gun and zip ties. Fette is a suspect in several similar robberies in southern Ohio.
A former Norwalk woman accused of dealing heroin has entered a plea of guilty, and could be placed on probation.
28-year-old Amber Reynolds, now of Clarksville, Tennessee will be sentenced next month. She was arrested last March, after selling a small amount of heroin to a confidential informant.
Two people have been picked to fill vacancies on Milan Village Council.
Former village administrator Jim Brown and Chris Gilliam will fill the empty seats. Those seats were vacant because no one ran for them last fall.
A heroin dealer from Norwalk was sent to prison yesterday.
Edward Blair will spend one year behind bars for selling “H” to a confidential informant last spring. During sentencing, Judge James Conway noted Blair’s criminal history, which dates back 20 years and includes burglary and weapons convictions.
