Berlin Township/Lake Erie Arms break-in

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying four suspects who allegedly stole multiple firearms from a gun store near Huron.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of March 11th at Lake Erie Arms on Cleveland Road West.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says that surveillance video shows four people kick in one of the store’s front doors and then smashing a display case and taking four Glock handguns.

Surveillance photos have been posted on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

 

Sandusky/Man briefly escapes after arrest

A Sandusky man was recaptured by police after trying to escape following his arrest for an active warrant.

According to authorities, the incident began when 23-year-old Brendan Durr of Camp Street, who had been released on bond for theft charges, was attempting to get his seized car back from Sandusky Police. 

Police say they then discovered an active warrant for Durr on weapons charges.

That led to Durr reportedly body-checking an officer and running; with police catching up to Durr after a brief chase. 

He now faces escape and assault charges.

 

Erie County/Suspect caught with counterfeit cash

An Oberlin man faces criminal charges after allegedly handing out counterfeit money at three stores in Huron and Sandusky.

Police say they found 13 counterfeit $100 bills inside the vehicle of 20-year-old Derek Sanders after pulling him over on Route 2 in Huron.

 

Huron County/Health Department annual report out

Huron County Public Health has released their annual report for 2017.  Here are a few of the findings:

-There were 22 drug-related overdose deaths in Huron County in 2017, compared to 19 in 2016.

-The health department sold 182 drug test kits in 2017, with the average age of the person being tested being 22 years old.

-A total of 974 babies were born in Huron County in 2017, 55 percent of them being male.  The top baby names in the county were Grayson, Colton, Harper, Carter and Emma.

 

Huron/School hires new curriculum director

Huron Schools have agreed to hire current Sandusky Schools’ administrator Julie McDonald as their new district curriculum director.

McDonald has worked in Sandusky Schools as a chief academic officer for close to 20 years.

She replaces the retiring Chris Standring; and will begin her new duties August 1st.

 

Berlin Heights/Woman looking to run for governor

A Berlin Heights woman is collecting signatures to run for governor. 

Emily Lowder, who owns a massage business in Milan, says she’s gone to nearly 20 counties to gather the 5,000 signatures she needs.

Lowder, who says she’ll run as an Independent, needs to turn in those signatures by May 7th.

 

Sandusky/Cedar Point job fairs

Today, Cedar Point will host its first of two job fairs.

Both will be held at Castaway Bay in Sandusky.

Today’s job event runs from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

Cedar Point hopes to fill 5-thousand seasonal positions…everything from games and ride operations to parking and security.
