Local news/Counties to participate in statewide tornado drill today

Don’t be alarmed.  It’s only a test.

The statewide tornado drill takes place today at 9:50 am.

In Erie County, all 44 outdoor severe weather warning sirens will be tested.

Huron County encourages schools, businesses and households to practice their emergency plans during this time.

 

Sandusky/Abduction suspects make first court appearance

The two women charged in the alleged abduction of a 4-year-old Sandusky boy last week made their first appearance in court on Tuesday.

Jennifer Hemchak and Tamara Montalvo, both of Florida, appeared via video stream in Sandusky Municipal Court.

Due to both women not having a public defender, their arraignments have been delayed until Friday.

4-year-old D’Quai Hemchak has been returned to Erie County where he’s staying in a foster home for the time being.

 

Monroeville & New London/School levies

Two Huron County schools have announced plans to have levies on the ballot in May.

After losing by 61 votes in November, Monroeville Local Schools will send the same 1.8 mill, five-year replacement levy back to the voters.

The New London Board of Education has given their approval to start the process of placing a 2.9 mill, five-year permanent improvement levy on the ballot.

 

Norwalk/Fisher Titus debuts new wound center technology

Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk will soon be offering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, a painless treatment meant to heal problem wounds.

The medical facility unveiled the technology and its equipment during an open house event last night.

According to Fisher Titus, chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the United States and are expected to rise at a rate of two percent annually over the next decade.

 

Norwalk/Curb project starting today

Construction is slated to begin today in Norwalk on their 2018 Curb Project.

Work will start across from Dave’s Food Mart near Summit Street on Benedict Avenue.

The city says traffic will be restricted during work hours and restored in the evening.

Delays are expected on Benedict Ave.

 

Huron County/National Drug Take Back Day information

National Drug Take Back Day has been set for Saturday April 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

In Huron County, drop off spots will include the New London Fire Station, Norwalk Police Department and Willard Fire and Rescue.
