Norwalk/Fatal fire
A fire early this morning in Norwalk has reportedly taken three lives.
According to the Norwalk Reflector, three adults died in the house fire on Park Ridge Court off of Valley Park Drive.
The state fire marshal is investigating.
Fremont teen/Vehicular homicide jury trial
A teenage boy from Fremont has a jury trial scheduled for February 2nd after being charged this week with aggravated vehicular homicide.
The 18 year-old boy, who was 17 at the time of the alleged incident in September, reportedly drove down South Buchanan Street with a victim on top of his car; with the victim falling on the pavement when the boy pulled into a driveway.
According to authorities, the victim died several days later due to injuries suffered in the fall.
Port Clinton man/Prison for child rape
A Port Clinton man has been sentenced to 12 and-a-half years in prison on a charge of rape involving a young child.
The reported incident took place in August 2016 involving 64 year-old Ronald Harper and a 4-year-old girl.
Harper’s sentence includes a charge of attempted evidence tampering.
He’s also required to register as a Tier-3 sex offender.
Norwalk/Crash
A Monroeville man was injured in a crash early Tuesday morning in Norwalk.
27 year-old Erik Syverson was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center after reportedly hitting another parked vehicle on East Main Street.
Syverson faces a failure to control citation.
Huron teacher/Science grants
An eight-grade science teacher in Huron recently received over $20,000 in grants for her classroom.
Leah LaCrosse at McCormick Junior High will use the funds for several class-related items including robotics and space lab equipment.
Sandusky business/Staying in town
Sandusky city commissioners have approved a $15,000 grant that will help keep a local business and 29 jobs in town.
AVI Food-systems will now be able to re-locate from their current location on Venice Road to a new facility on Fifth Street.
Their relocation plan includes the installation of a loading dock and the building of office space.
The total relocation project costs $60,000; which includes $30,000 from AVI Food-systems and $15,000 from their property owner, BSL Holdings.
Dog license/Huron County deadline
Huron County is reminding their residents that dog tags need to be purchased by the end of this month to avoid a late fee.
Tags cost $18 for one year and can be purchased at various locations including the Auditor’s Office, Dog Warden, and Huron County Humane Society in Norwalk.
‘Plunge’/Sandusky on Saturday
The 13th annual Sandusky Polar Plunge takes place this Saturday at The Thirsty Pony.
The plunge helps raise funds for Special Olympics Ohio.
Early check-in and registration takes place this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 pm with day-of registration on Saturday at 10:00 am.
The event officially gets underway Saturday at 1:00 pm.
