State Patrol releases Thanksgiving Holiday Report
Statistics released from the Highway Patrol show more motorists were killed on Ohio’s roadways this Thanksgiving holiday than in recent years.
During the five-day reporting period, from Wednesday until Sunday, 16 people were killed in 11 fatal crashes; compared to nine people losing their lives in nine fatal crashes a year ago.
Of the 16 deaths this year, seven were not wearing an available safety belt and one pedestrian was killed.
Woman’s death under investigation in Fremont
Police from Fremont are investigating the death of a 36-year-old woman found unresponsive on North Street Sunday evening.
Detectives are looking in to the death of Joy Grant; who authorities first thought could’ve been shot.
However, no evidence of gunfire was located with just slight physical injuries found on Grant.
An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.
Three area counties coming together to help build drug rehab facility
Commissioners from Huron, Erie and Ottawa counties are together looking for $500,000 from the state to help build a drug rehab facility in Sandusky.
The money would go towards the estimated $2.3 million investment that would create an inpatient residential treatment facility for women in the Ability Works building on Superior Street.
If all goes as planned, the facility that would house up to 80 patients, could open by spring of 2018.
Erie County inmate who fled from probation office tries to take own life
A man who fled from authorities at the adult probation office in Sandusky earlier this month reportedly tried to take his own life in the Erie County Jail on Sunday.
23-year-old Quinn Emminger of Sandusky attempted to hang himself in his cell.
Emminger was then taken by officers to a padded isolation room.
He faces prison time for drug charges.
Firelands teams up with Sandusky Artisans to help those dealing with overdoses
With a rapid increase in E-R visits for drug overdoses in Erie County, Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky and Sandusky Artisans have joined forces to try to save lives or at least get them back on the right track.
Beginning this weekend, when the Firelands’ Emergency Room receives an overdose patient, a peer counselor on-call from Sandusky Artisans will head to the hospital to offer treatment options and advice to the patient and their family.
“Giving Tuesday” event today at Sandusky Mall
The Sandusky Mall is hosting a “Giving Tuesday” event later today.
From 4:00 to 8:00 pm, donations for the United Way of Erie County will be accepted near the entrance for J.C. Penney.
All money will go towards the organization’s annual campaign, which has a goal of raising $30,000 on this “Giving Tuesday”.
They surpassed their goal of $20,000 last year by collecting over $27,000.
