Police believe man’s death was accidental

A 20-year-old Sandusky man was hit and killed by a train Tuesday night.

The Sandusky Register reports that Dylan Riedy’s death was likely an accident; this – according to authorities and the train’s conductor.

Riedy and another person were crossing the tracks on North Depot Street near the Amtrak station in Sandusky.

The exact cause of death is under investigation.

 

Willard man dead after target shooting incident in Seneca County

A 23-year-old Willard man was killed Sunday afternoon in Seneca County while target shooting.

Authorities say that Nickolas Hughes was struck once in the chest by a .22 caliber handgun bullet while he and others were reportedly shooting at cans on East Township Road in Republic.

 

New London man indicted for shooting friend

A man from rural New London has been indicted on multiple charges involving a fatal shooting incident in January.

54-year-old Trent McCullough has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and a charge of reckless homicide in the death of 49-year-old George Ely.

McCullough first told authorities that Ely’s wound was self-inflicted before later admitting that he didn’t mean to shoot his friend.

 

Sandusky man going to prison for wire fraud

A Sandusky man faces prison time on charges of conspiracy, money laundering and wire fraud.

Co-owner of Construction Equipment and Supply in Sandusky, Scott Wagner, was sentenced by a federal judge to more than six years behind bars in connection with an alleged scheme to rip off several area companies.

City offices closed in Norwalk tomorrow and Friday

Norwalk City Offices will be closed tomorrow and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Trash collection will be delayed by one day.

 

Patrol reminds motorists to wear safety belts this Thanksgiving

In anticipation of increased traffic during the Thanksgiving holiday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to buckle up, never drive impaired and always follow traffic laws.

Last year during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, nine people were killed in nine fatal crashes on Ohio’s roadways.  Five of those fatalities were the result of an impaired driver and six were unbuckled.

To promote traffic safety, troopers will have an increased presence on Ohio’s roadways to remove impaired drivers.

 

Edison band members to perform in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Three Edison High School band members are set to perform not only in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, but also on NBC’s “The Today Show” this morning.

Jake Evans, Connor McGinley and Ryan Reilly will join the Ohio University Marching 110 live this morning at 8:30 and 10:30 am.

The three will also march with the O-U band on Thanksgiving with an appearance on the red carpet live performance area at 11:00 am.

In Sandusky, Victory Kitchen on Hayes Avenue will host a meal from 12 noon to 3:00 pm today with The Zion-Holy Angels Thanksgiving dinner to be held Thursday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at Holy Angels on Tiffin Avenue.

In Norwalk, the annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner at the Norwalk Catholic School cafeteria will take place from 11:00 am to 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

In Milan, a Thanksgiving Dinner for active military and their families will be served on Thanksgiving Day at noon at the Culinary Vegetable Institute on State Route 13 (Mudbrook Road).
