Vermilion man faces additional indictment in relation to standoff

 A 68 year-old Vermilion man faces an additional indictment in relation to a standoff with police in July.

John Friel of Barnes Road, who was indicted last month on felonious assault, domestic violence and aggravated menacing; now faces a charge of disrupting a public service.

According to authorities, Friel pointed a gun at deputies following a domestic violence incident on July 15th.

 

Snapchat rape suspect to go to trial next month

A trial date has been set for the Danbury Township man accused of raping a young woman while being recorded on the social media app, Snapchat.

77 year-old Dennis Allen, former general manager of Bay Point Resort, will go to court in Ottawa County beginning on October 31st.

Allen was indicted last month on charges of rape and sexual battery in the incident reportedly involving a 20 year-old woman at his South Emerald Shores Drive home.

 

Two people from Norwalk arrested in drug bust

A man and woman from Norwalk have been arrested following a drug bust on South Old State Road.

34 year-old Daniel Skodny and 38 year-old Angie McIntire were both charged with drug trafficking following the raid at 10-B South Old State Road.

Additional arrests are likely to be made in connection with the bust.

 

Basketball coach promoted to assistant principal at Sandusky

Sandusky varsity boys basketball coach Colin Irish has been promoted to the role of high school assistant principal at Sandusky.

Irish, who will also remain as coach of the Blue Streaks, formerly worked as the dean of students at Sandusky Middle School.

Irish will be entering his fourth season as head coach.  His teams have a combined record of 61-14.

He will replace Jennifer Joubert, who resigned in August to take a job in Detroit.

 

Electric bill scam in Huron County

A scam related to electric bills has been reported in Huron County.

The scam involves someone posing as an Ohio Edison employee telling a caller they are behind on their bill and they need to go to CVS to pay with a “Pay Pack”.

You are asked to inform authorities if you receive a similar call.

 

CLI Workshop involved in Hurricane Harvey fundraiser

The CLI Workshop in Norwalk will be assembling care baskets for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas next Wednesday; along with CIVISTA Bank volunteers.

If you would like to donate items such as baby food, diapers, medical supplies and toiletries; they can be dropped off at CLI Workshop at 306 South Norwalk Road West, Suite B.
