Mayor of Put-in-Bay denies doing anything wrong

Put-in-Bay mayor Bernard McCann has denied any wrongdoing in connection with an investigation of the village last week.

McCann said through his lawyer on Friday, via The Toledo Blade, that he and a business partner have made the island the tourist capital of Ohio while providing jobs for residents and tax income for the county.

The investigation included searches of the police department, village hall and lawyer’s office.

 

Huron County mosquito sample tests positive for West Nile

A mosquito sample from the Monroeville area has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

This according to Huron County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health.

Health officials are encouraging Huron County residents to take all precautions to avoid bites; as well as to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Free mosquito control kits are available to county residents at the Huron County Public Health office in Norwalk.

 

Grant would help fight county opioid issues

The Huron County Mental Health and Addiction Services Board have applied for a grant focused on fighting the area’s opioid drug problems.

The grant would give the county up to $800,000 over the next four years to assist with the budget for the overdose antidote, Narcan, as well as give training to first responders.

The board is also working on putting together a ‘Quick Response Team’; with a focus on helping survivors of overdoses with their recovery.

 

Cracks to be repaired at Davis-Besse

Repairs are expected to begin this week on cracks in a shield building around the Davis-Besse nuclear reactor in Oak Harbor.

Workers are expected to prepare areas surrounding the cracks for new concrete.

The repairs will take around seven weeks to complete; with the plant to maintain normal operation during the maintenance.

 

Waterline project starting today in Norwalk

The Valley Park Drive Waterline Project is scheduled to get underway today in Norwalk.

Traffic delays are expected while work is taking place between Main Street and Jefferson.

 

Grandparents target of phone scams, DeWine warns

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is warning families to beware of phone scams targeting grandparents.

The typical scam involves a grandparent receiving a call from someone posing as their grandchild, who claims to be in trouble and in urgent need of money.

The grandparent is then asked to send money immediately by using a prepaid money card, wire transfer or iTunes gift card.
