Two trials awaiting alleged serial rapist

Alleged serial rapist McClain Durst faces two upcoming jury trials.

The first being in October in Huron County in connection with an alleged sex crime with a minor this past July in West Clarksfield.

The other will take place in November in Sandusky County for an accused rape in Bellevue in 2015.

Durst was previously found guilty of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in 2010, in which he served three years in jail for.

Patrol reports Labor Day enforcement efforts

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it made more impaired driving, drug and seat belt arrests this Labor Day compared to 2016.

24 people lost their lives over the holiday weekend in 22 crashes; with alcohol a contributing factor in at least four fatalities.

Overall, troopers arrested 845 drivers for OVI and issued 6,171 safety belt citations; with 536 drug arrests and 150 felony apprehensions made.

Tkach to complete Beck’s term on Norwalk City Council

Dwight Tkach has been chosen to complete the term of at-large Norwalk City Councilman Kelly Beck, who resigned last month.

Tkach, a former five-term council member himself with Norwalk from 2002 to 2012, will serve beginning next week and continue through the end of the year.

Beck resigned due to moving from Norwalk to Collins with his family.

Mayor of Put-in-Bay convicted of driving without a license

Put-in-Bay Mayor Bernard “Mac” McCann has been convicted of driving without a license.

McCann was ordered to pay a $100 fine and court costs; but could serve jail time for future offenses.

The mayor pled no contest to two lesser charges in exchange for having remaining charges dropped in relation to five citations he received for driving without a license from November 2016 to January of this year.

New security measures at Margaretta Schools

Margaretta Schools have put in place new safety and security features at the high school and middle school.

All exterior doors will be locked by 8:00 am with visitors now entering between the High School and Townsend School.

Visitors will be required to sign in with a secretary behind a glass window; where they will then be buzzed in.

New security cameras have also been installed.

Mural planned to celebrate Sandusky’s bicentennial

Work will begin shortly on a mural to celebrate Sandusky’s 2018 bicentennial.

A professional company has been hired to create a mural on the rear brick façade of the State Theatre that overlooks Jackson Street.

It will feature the city’s waterfront, architecture and history.

The mural should be complete by no later than September 27^th.
