Boat fire Monday afternoon at Cedar Point Marina

No one was hurt during a boat fire Monday afternoon at Cedar Point Marina.

An initial assessment from the Coast Guard, according to the Sandusky Register, found that three boats tied to a dock appeared to catch fire, due to a gas tank explosion from one of the boats.

The blaze did not take place on park property, according to Cedar Point’s Tony Clark, who said the park’s operations were not affected.

 

Perkins Township woman faces up to 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter

A woman from Perkins Township pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Monday.

35-year-old Christine Gilbert of West Perkins Avenue had been indicted on two murder charges in February for her role in the knifing death of 44-year-old Jaime Wilburn.

Gilbert could face up to 10 years in prison when she’s sentenced in October.

 

Willard man believed to have stolen televisions  

A Willard man has been arrested for burglary.

Authorities charged 20-year-old Chandler Newsome after an investigation following an incident on August 1st at Kennedy Drive in which two televisions were stolen from a residence.

One of the TVs was later recovered after Newsome reportedly sold it to another person.

 

Couple sustain minor injuries after semi collides with car

A married couple received minor injuries following an accident involving a car and semi on Saturday night in Oxford Township.

Megan and Brock Evans were on Ohio 113 between Huber and Peru Center roads when Evans said she missed a turn, slowed down and eventually crossed into the path of a semi that had been following her.

Evans car was then hit in the passenger side by the semi truck.

The truck driver, Edward Vogt of Willard, was uninjured.

 

Accident heavily damages traffic lights in Sandusky

A two-vehicle accident Saturday night in Sandusky caused damage to the intersection’s traffic light system.

Two vehicles reported crashed into each other at the intersection of Scott and U.S. 6 (Warren Street) by the Sweet Treats and Treasures shop.

The accident knocked down a pole leaving some of the traffic signals inoperable.

Stop signs have been placed on Scott Street with signs on U.S. 6 possibly to be put up later.

Officials plan on a total replacement of the traffic signals.

 

Huron County Fair – Day #2

Today marks the second day of the Huron County Fair in Norwalk.

It’s “kids’ day” with children receiving free admission until 3:00 pm.

Cheer Bonanza takes place in the grandstand tonight at 6:30 pm.

On display this week at the fair is a quilt with patches created by children about and against bullying.

The quilt with 41 patches was sewn together by Norwalk Senior Enrichment Center volunteers; and is out for viewing at the Huron County Victims’ Assistance booth.
