A bizarre story, out of the Bellevue area.
A 72-year-old Flat Rock man is accused of setting fire to his house, and using a gun to hold deputies at bay. According to reports, Lloyd Hicks set the blaze yesterday afternoon, after an argument with his wife. He then took a seat on the back porch of his County Road 29 home, while holding a handgun. It took deputies a half hour to convince Hicks to put down the gun, so Bellevue firefighters could extinguish the blaze. He was taken for a mental health evaluation, then to jail. He’s currently charged with domestic violence.
Police in Sandusky are looking for a man who robbed a payday loan store.
The man walked into National Cash Advance on West Perkins Avenue early yesterday afternoon, went behind the store’s counter, and demanded money. The man didn’t show a weapon, but was able to make off with an undisclosed amount of cash. He’s unknown if he fled on foot, or in a car. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage.
Two years in prison, for a Willard man who robbed a local bluegrass festival in April.
Jeremy Cooper was sentenced this week, for attempted robbery. Prosecutors said he made off with a donation jar filled with money. One person was injured, during the getaway.
You might have heard a steam engine train rolling through the area yesterday afternoon.
Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765 made its way along tracks in Bellevue, Monroeville and Norwalk. It was headed toward Cuyahoga Valley, for the “Steam In The Valley 2013” event.
Officials with the Horseshoe Casino, Cincinnati say 2.7 million people have come there, since it opened six months ago.
