The Cleveland man convicted of holding three women captive in his home for nearly a decade has been found dead, and is believed to have committed suicide.
53-year-old Ariel Castro was found hanging in his state prison cell at 9:20 last night. Officials said he wasn’t on suicide watch. Castro was sentenced in August to life, plus 1,000 years, after pleading guilty to more than 900 charges.
Milan police are investigating an alleged rape, at Briarfield Nursing Home.
The alleged incident occurred over the weekend. Reports indicate the 57-year-old female victim and the 47-year-old male suspect are residents of the home. Police plan to interview potential witnesses.
Deputies are investigating the alleged theft of more than $10,000, from the Erie County Care Facility.
An accounting firm recently hired to examine finances discovered the money was missing. Auditors believe the money was taken within the past 12 to 15 months. The facility’s director of finance, Melinda Langston has been placed on paid leave…She has not been charged with a crime.
The Norwalk City Hall parking lot off Monroe Street will be closed this weekend, for repaving.
It should re-open on Monday.
A $5,000 reward is being offered, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting an early August house fire in Willard.
While the blaze at the Broad Street home remains under investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause was arson. Tips can be given to the Willard Fire Department, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, or the Fire Marshal’s Office.
A new poll shows Ohioans are split on the idea of gay marriage, and if the election were held today, would not overturn the state’s ban on it.
The nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute surveyed 1,001 adults. The results show 47 percent believe same-sex couples should be allowed to wed. Another 47 percent do not. The remaining six percent were unsure, or did not respond.
