US 6 East closed this morning between Fremont and Sandusky

US 6 East in Sandusky County between Fremont and Sandusky is closed this morning due to an accident that includes a diesel fuel spill.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it could take several hours to clean up; with the road remaining closed until at least 12:00 noon today.

A detour is in place.

 

Demolition work begins to clear way for new Norwalk Fire Station

Workers have begun clearing the way for the new Norwalk fire station.

Demolition took place yesterday on the old Home Lumber Building on Whittlesey Avenue.

Work is expected to begin later this year on the new fire station; with bids for the project to go out in July.

 

Norwalk City Council agrees to bring taxi service back to the city

After the Tijuana Taxi service let its franchise slip away, it left Norwalk with a taxi shortage.

But Norwalk City Council has agreed to give a franchise back to Tijuana; after the taxicab service decided to add one driver in the Norwalk area.

 

Huron County Humane Society looking for donations for puppy’s heart surgery

The Huron County Humane Society is looking for assistance in paying the costs of a 12 week-old puppy’s required heart surgery.

Treasurer Jennifer Evans told the Norwalk Reflector that their goal is $1,500.

The Australian Shepherd mix named ‘Sasha’ is recovering from the April 6th surgery; that was needed due to a heart murmur.

You can help donate by going online, by mail or in person.

‘Sasha’ will also be available to adopt real soon.

 

Norwalk Area United Fund announces dates for professional clothing swap event

The Norwalk Area United Fund’s 3rd Professional Clothing Swap event will take place next month.

From May 8th through 12th, the agency’s conference room will be jam packed with professional work attire; which will be free for anyone in need.

 

Erie County Sheriff issuing citations for people intruding on bat habitats

Erie MetroParks are attempting to revive the bat habitat…with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office offering their help.

The sheriff’s office has been issuing citations for those trespassing at Castalia Quarry MetroPark for people infringing upon hollowed areas in cliffs that are being used as habitats.

An 18 year-old from Norwalk and 17 year-old from Bellevue were caught earlier this week inside the restricted area; receiving citations in the process.

Fences and signs warning visitors to keep out of the habitats are in place; which the park says is also dangerous for visitors to be near.
