City of Norwalk opposes state’s centralized tax collection
Norwalk City Council has passed a resolution that strongly opposes Governor Kasich’s proposed budget; which allows for centralized collection of net profit tax returns related to municipal income tax. The city of Norwalk says the plan will cause a considerable loss of revenue needed to support local governments including safety and economic development. Mayor Rob Duncan told the Norwalk Reflector that additional cuts to local government funds are not healthy for the city.
Huron Co. Chamber Home and Business Show is Saturday
The 16th annual Huron County Chamber of Commerce Home and Business Show takes place Saturday at Norwalk Middle School. The event showcases over 70 area businesses and will include drone demonstrations from Daniel’s Hobbies. Cleveland’s own Stipe Miocic, UFC Heavyweight Champion, will also be on hand to meet and sign autographs from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The show features free admission. It runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Pub Crawl set for Saturday in Norwalk
The Maple City Ice Bicentennial Pub Crawl will happen Saturday from 2:30 to 7:00 pm in Norwalk. It features Norwalk history trivia at 7 local bars with the winning team taking home $200 in Huron County Chamber gift certificates. Registration has closed for the event; but you still can come out and cheer on the teams.
Grubbe no longer to serve on elections board
Democrat Amy Grubbe will no longer serve on Erie County’s board of elections. Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has deemed Grubbe unfit to serve another full term; citing Grubbe’s most recent term being marked by controversies including the harassing treatment of staff, poor relationships with government offices and the inability to get along with co-workers. Husted must select a Democratic replacement for Grubbe by March 1st.
South Central High School hosting stuffed animal toss for first responders
South Central High School is hosting their 2nd annual Stuffed Animal Toss tonight during their final boys basketball home game. Stuffed animals will be tossed onto the court during halftime of the varsity game for donation to local hospitals and first responders to comfort children in crisis. Students and staff will be admitted free tonight with a stuffed animal.
Truck sales on the increase, Cleveland Auto Show starts today
People walking into showrooms across northern Ohio are driving out more often in SUV’s and pick-up trucks. Sales of those vehicles in January…up 53-percent from a year ago. Car sales were down 11-percent. Last month, Chevy was your volume-leader. Also, The Cleveland Auto Show opens this evening at the I-X Center near Hopkins Airport. Tonight is “Hero Night”. Active and veteran military personnel, plus police, fire and safety personnel will get in free. Tomorrow afternoon (Saturday), you can have your picture taken with The Smurfs. The Cleveland Auto Show will run through March 5th.
