Huron County Commissioners name VP and President for 2017

Joe Hintz has been named the President to the Board of Huron County Commissioners for 2017; with Terry Boose to serve as vice-president. Those decisions coming Monday during a Huron County Commissioners’ organizational meeting. The three county commissioners, also including Skip Wilde, passed resolutions involving public participation and personnel matters during meetings; as well as setting regular meeting times of every Tuesday and the first and third Thursdays of each month in Norwalk.

 

Weekend house fire in Bellevue causes $60,000 in damage

A weekend fire in Bellevue has left five people without a home for the time being. The fire took place on Ohio 269 South late Saturday night; beginning in an electrical outlet, according to early reports. The Norwalk Reflector says that the five residents of the home, including three children, were able to make it out safely; with the American Red Cross to assist them with living arrangements while the home is being mended. Close to $60,000 in combined content loss and structural damage was done to the home.

 

State Highway Patrol looking for new recruits

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will soon be taking applications for trooper positions. Applications will be accepted starting February 1st with the applicants fitting these requirements: you must be 20 to 34 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, be a U.S. citizen and Ohio resident, and have a driver’s license with less than five points on your record. 100 applicants will be selected for training this fall in Columbus. Norwalk United Fund with reminder on Tool Time fundraiser

The Norwalk Area United Fund has put out a ‘Save the Date’ reminder for their “Tool Time” fundraiser. ‘Tool Time with the United Fund’ will take place Saturday, April 29th at the Huron County Fairgrounds Pickworth Building.It will feature raffles, tools, food and more.

 

New trucks and SUV sales are booming in Ohio

Sales of new trucks and SUV’s continue to surge across northern Ohio. The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association reports, December sales were up nearly 13-percent from a year ago; a sales trend seen across 2016.Overall, sales of SUV’s and trucks were up nearly 8-percent, while sales of cars were down nearly 8-percent. For the year, Ford was your volume-leader.
