Perkins graduate arrested after threats made to his former school
The suspect accused of making threats towards Perkins Schools has been arrested. Former Perkins Township resident, Shane Andrews, now of Ashland, has been charged with aggravated menacing, after a verbal threat mentioning Perkins Schools was made by Andrews last weekend. All schools in the Perkins district received increased security Wednesday morning while Andrews was being tracked down. Andrews was transported to the Erie County Jail; where he awaits a date with Sandusky Municipal Court.
Construction projects approved by Norwalk City Council
Norwalk City Council this week endorsed city officials to create contracts for seven construction projects. Those include this summer’s Milan Avenue (US 250) improvement project, which is slated to cost $2.5 million. Public Works Director Josh Snyder told the Norwalk Reflector the city has received 80 percent of the roadway portion costs of the Milan Avenue project from a grant through ODOT. Other construction projects include street resurfacing, sidewalk replacement, and sewer lining.
Macy’s closing in Sandusky at year’s end
The Macy’s store at the Sandusky Mall will be closing at the end of this year. The company announced that the Sandusky location is one of 68 Macy’s closing nationwide as the company re-structures. The 133,000 square foot Macy’s in Sandusky currently employs 61 associates.
Patrol releases traffic fatality statistics for New Year’s and Christmas
The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released traffic fatality data from the New Year’s and Christmas reporting periods. Four people were killed on Ohio’s roadways during the New Year’s Holiday period, in what the patrol says is a significant decrease from the 2016 New Year’s reporting period, when 11 individuals died in traffic crashes.
During this year’s Christmas reporting period, 10 crashes resulted in 13 fatalities.
The Highway Patrol arrested a combined 680 motorists for impaired driving during the two holiday reporting periods.
