It’s special election day in the Perkins school district.

Voters have until 7:30, to decide on a 10-year, 6.73 mill levy. The Perkins Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting tomorrow, but the time is dependent on today’s vote. If voters reject the levy, the board will meet at 7am, at the Administrative Service Center. If it’s approved, the board will meet at 6pm at Perkins High School.

 

It’s fair time, in Erie County.

The 2013 fair begins its six day run this morning. Tonight’s grandstand attraction is the Broken Horn Rodeo. It begins at 7:30. Also tonight…the crowning of fair royalty. The Fair Queen Pageant will begin at 8, in the multipurpose building. Of note…there’s free admission until 4pm tomorrow, for children under 16. Friday, it’s Senior Fest, with free admission for anyone 60 and over, until 4pm. Saturday is Veterans Day at the Erie County Fair. Until 4pm, veterans and immediate family members will be admitted free of charge.

We’ll broadcast live from the Erie County Fair, starting at 5 today.

 

Attendance records were shattered, at this year’s Ohio State Fair.

Nearly 904,000 people showed up between July 24th and Sunday. The previous record was 850,000, set in 2004. State Fair officials say near-perfect weather was the key. Temperatures didn’t surpass 81, and there was sun nearly every day.

 

Some shuffling in the Norwalk City Schools.

The Board of Education met in special session last night to accept the resignation of Maplehurst Elementary Principal Jackie Davis.  She’s leaving for Clyde-Green Springs.

Main St. School Principal Ken Moore will take over at Maplehurst, while Norwalk High Assistant Principal Dan Bauman will move to Main St.  School officials are considering options for filling the N-H-S assistant principal spot.

 

Sandusky’s new gifted school has received a big financial boost.

The Dorn Foundation is giving $1 million to the school system. Half will go the Regional Center for Advanced Academic Studies. The rest will go toward pre-kindergarten education.

 

As we first told you yesterday, Norwalk has a new fire chief.

Captain John Soisson is now Chief John Soisson.  He was sworn in yesterday.  Three others were promoted.  Mike Alexander is now Secretary of Fire.  Brett Beers was promoted to Captain while Aaron Lynch was promoted to lieutenant.
