Strongsville man pleads ‘Not Guilty’ to charges from Fatal Hit-and-Run at Lorain County Fairgrounds
A man from Strongsville has pled ‘not guilty’ to a host of charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run outside the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington. 61 year-old Greg Box is accused of driving drunk and striking 38 year old Linda Velez of Lorain on Fairgrounds Road, just north of the main gate, Sunday-night. Box took off, but was spotted about half-an-hour later in Wellington and arrested.
Sandusky Fire Department receives $227,000 Grant
The City of Sandusky Fire Department has been selected to receive a $227,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency. The money will be used to buy equipment including 38 complete sets of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, which will replace their existing units, which were first placed into service in 2004. The Sandusky Fire Department has also released service figures for the month of July. They handled 564 incidents and calls in July, for an average of 18 per 24-hour shift. The year-to-date average increased a little to 17 per 24-hour shift.
Norwalk City Council meets tonight
City Council in Norwalk meets tonight in Work Session. Items to be discussed this evening include: submitting an application to the State Capital Improvement Program concerning the widening of Old State Road, the city’s approval to develop state and national bicycle routes running through Norwalk, and the repairing and construction of sidewalks in the city.
Perkins Township Police hiring
The Perkins Township Police Department will be holding an entry level exam for a full-time patrol officer on October 1st.
