The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is looking into allegations that a Vermilion police officer assaulted a defenseless man during a 2015 arrest.
The alleged incident involving Sgt. Aaron Bolton and the man occurred in September, outside Rudy’s Bar and Grill. There is video footage from a body cam worn by Bolton, but the images are dark and fuzzy. The outside investigation was requested by Vermilion Police Chief Chris Hartung. A previous investigation was handled by Captain Michael Reinheimer, who was fired in November for unprofessional behavior. It’s not known how long the new investigation will take. Bolton was placed on paid leave last week.
