With temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50’s, a new record high could be set in Norwalk.

The current record is 55, set in 1931.

 

Firefighters continue to investigate a blaze that claimed a Sandusky man.

69-year-old Charles Purkeypile of Sandusky died early yesterday morning inside his Milan Road apartment. Officials suspect he was smoking in bed while using an oxygen machine. The blaze remains under investigation.

 

Officials with Michael’s craft store have announced plans to buy the parent company of rival and Ohio-based Pat Catan’s.

The deal between Michael’s and Lamrite West is worth $150 million. No stores will close, and no employees will lose their jobs. It’s not yet known if the sale will affect Pat Catan’s plans to open a new store in Norwalk.

 

Norwalk City Council has approved a lease-purchase agreement for new phones.

The new citywide phone system from Frontier will cost $81,000.

 

A change, involving Imagine Norwalk.

This summer’s three Friday downtown events—June 3rd, July 1st and August 5th will be coordinated by the Norwalk Jaycees. Imagine Norwalk’s third summer season will again feature music, food and more.

 

A Bellevue man accused of going online to solicit sex from a girl under 13 will undergo a mental health evaluation to determine if he knew right from wrong and to see if he can aid in his own defense.

71-year-old Lawrence Green is charged with felony importuning. He was arrested in early January, after a month-long investigation. Green remains in the Huron County Jail, in lieu of $30,000 bond.

 

Police in Fremont are looking for a man who robbed KeyBank yesterday afternoon.

The man walked into the bank just before 4 and gave a teller a note demanding money. He fled the scene on foot, and hasn’t been seen since.

 

A change, involving the Greenwich Township Trustees.

The trustees have changed meeting times to 5:30, the final Tuesday of each month.

 

Nearly a dozen people have applied to become the next treasurer of the Norwalk City Schools.

Three are from the area. Of the 11 applicants, three have experience in school finance. The Norwalk Board of Education hopes to hire a new treasurer by next month.

 

February 16th is the deadline to register to vote, or change voter information in time for the March 15th primary election.
