35-year-old Joseph Sandy of Grafton could be sentenced to life in prison, with a chance of parole in 20 years. He appeared in Erie County Common Pleas Court yesterday, and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of aggravated murder. In exchange, the prosecutor’s office dismissed several other felony charges, agreed not to pursue the death penalty. Sandy and his wife went to the Campbell Street home of 86-year-old George Martin in December of 2013, with the intent to steal. Instead, Sandy fatally stabbed Martin, and then set fire to the house. The case was under investigation for six months, before Sandy’s wife revealed her involvement. Bethany Sandy of Norwalk remains in the Erie County Jail, and is facing several complicity charges.
