That’s because the Lady Eagles are one match away from playing for a state volleyball championship. Fresh off Saturday’s stunning comeback win over top-ranked McComb, #3 Monroeville will play #2 Jackson Center in the Division IV state semi-finals at 4 this Friday afternoon, at Wright State University. You can hear the match live on 95.3, WLKR and wlkrradio.com. If Monroeville wins, the Lady Eagles will play for the state championship at 5 Saturday.
Thanks to a passerby, no one was hurt in a Sunday morning house fire in Milan Township.
Seven people inside the home were unaware of the blaze, until a driver stopped to help, after noticing smoke billowing from the roof. Milan Township firefighters were called, and firefighters from Berlin Heights and Norwalk were summoned for mutual aid. The blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes. It’s believed a problem with the chimney sparked the blaze. River Road, between Jeffries Road and State Route 113 was closed while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Leaf pickup in Norwalk will begin next Monday.
Leaves will be picked up, the day after your normal day of trash pickup. If your trash is collected on Friday, your leaves will be picked up next Monday.
The Huron County Board of Elections will meet at 9am next Wednesday, to accept or reject provisional ballots from Tuesday’s election.
The Board of Elections will meet again at 7am next Friday, to certify the results from the general election. Both meetings will be held in the board office, in the Huron County Administration building in Norwalk.
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has ordered the Hamilton County Board of Elections to conduct a review of problems experienced by voters and precinct election officials in their implementation of electronic pollbooks during last Tuesday’s election.
The review is to be complete by Friday, December 11th. Problems at Cincinnati-area polls led to a lawsuit, 90 extra minutes of voting time, and delayed results this past Tuesday night.
A Castalia man is now a member of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.
88-year-old Ernest Bowman was inducted last week. Bowman is a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in World War II. He also served as chaplain of American Legion Post 83, and later, commander of Post 83.
