A Huron woman remains behind bars, in connection with the death of a four-year-old boy.

32-year-old Lindsey Gundlach is in the Erie County Jail, in lieu of $750,000 bond. She’s charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and DUI.

She was arrested, after backing from a driveway, through a grassy strip, into the Huron River. The incident occurred late Sunday night, at Franklin Flats in Milan Township. Two children were in the car: four-year-old Javin Jacques and seven-year-old Autumn Collinsworth. The girl was freed, but the boy was trapped inside the car.

After being freed by rescue crews, he was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, but was pronounced dead. Gundlach’s blood alcohol content was .12.


The Norwalk Area United Fund is on the move.

The office is relocating from its present location on East Main, to the corner of East Seminary and Benedict. The new location will be handicapped-accessible. Officials said no campaign donations will be used in the move.


A Norwalk native has been named superintendent of Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby.

Greg Nickoli will take over January 1st. He’s been working as Pioneer’s Director of Operations since 2009. Nickoli is a 1984 graduate of Norwalk High School.


She spent 14 months on the run, but now, she’s in the Huron County Jail.

37-year-old Jessica Pannell of Bellevue was scheduled to be sentenced on drug charges in October of last year. But she skipped town and bounced around the country, before recently returning to Bellevue. Acting on a tip, Bellevue police arrested her early Sunday afternoon, at a home on Kilbourne Street. She’s due in Huron County Common Pleas Court this morning.


The city of Willard’s 2015 budget is in place.

It was approved last week, by Willard City Council.

 

A mixed bag in terms of area unemployment.

While the statewide average went down to five percent in November, jobless rates increased in Huron and Erie Counties.  Huron County’s unemployment rate rose from 5.8 percent in October to 6.5 percent last month.  That’s 6th highest in Ohio.  In Erie County, the increase was small, 4.6 percent in November, compared to 4.5 percent the previous month.  According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, November unemployment rates decreased slightly in Lorain and Crawford Counties.  Rates rose a bit in Ashland and Sandusky Counties.  There was no change in Richland and Seneca Counties.

 

A teacher and coach in Wellington have been placed on paid leave, amid allegations he may have had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

30-year-old Nick Vaughn is under investigation, but hasn’t been charged.  According to reports, Wellington Police tried to question Vaughn, but he declined to speak.  Police are working to get a warrant to search his phone and they say there might have been more than one victim.  Vaughn is a computer teacher, head track and field, and cross country coach at Wellington.

 

Ohio State football fans are being warned about online ticket scams ahead of next week’s Sugar Bowl.

Attorney General Mike DeWine says crooks are posing as military members on Craiglist offering tickets for less than the going rate of $200 each.  At least two fans from central Ohio have bilked by the scam.
