A boil advisory remains in effect for the village of Bay View.
It was issued late yesterday morning, after a water main break. It should be lifted by late this afternoon or early evening.
Norwalk City Council has a new member.
Erin Smetzer will represent the second ward. She was appointed yesterday. She’s filling the seat of longtime councilman Bob Carleton, who died last month. Smetzer is a Norwalk native, and a graduate of Miami University in Oxford. She’s the owner and administrator of Junior Explorers Child Development Center.
A man who recently won election to the statehouse was in court yesterday, to plead ‘not guilty’ to three felony charges.
Steve Kraus is charged with burglary, breaking and entering and theft. He’s accused of stealing valuables from a home in Danbury Township this past spring. Kraus is scheduled to stand trial in April. He’s currently free on bond. Kraus beat Chris Redfern in the race for Ohio’s 89th House district, which includes Erie and Ottawa counties. It’s not known if Kraus will be sworn into office next month.
A Norwalk Middle School student was rushed to the hospital yesterday, after he was hit by a car while walking home from school.
The accident occurred shortly after 2:30 on Norwood Avenue. Witnesses told police the 14-year-old boy crossed the street, and was darting between cars, when he was hit. The boy was taken by ambulance to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. His injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. So far, no charges have been filed.
A former nurse from Bellevue is facing nearly 40 felony charges, for allegedly stealing prescription medication from patients.
37-year-old Andrea Alley is charged with 23 counts of illegal processing of drug documents, and 16 counts of theft of dangerous drugs. Alley was a nurse at Windsor Lane Healthcare Center in Gibsonburg. She was fired in July, after nursing home officials investigated allegations against her. The case will be turned over to a grand jury.
