A 2008 Western Reserve High School graduate will make his big league pitching debut today.

Andrew Chafin will start for Arizona, when the Diamondbacks take on the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. It’ll be game one of a traditional doubleheader, starting at 4:05. You can hear both games on 95.3, WLKR. The Tribe and Diamondbacks are playing two, because of rain last night.

 

Today is Veterans Day at the Huron County Fair.

Admission for veterans with proper ID is just one cent. It’ll be loud at the fairgrounds tonight. The OSTPA Tractor Pull will begin at 6:30. General grandstand admission is free. Box and pit seats are $5. Kelly Rose will broadcast live from the fair, between 10 and 3 today.

 

Congratulations to this year’s Huron County Junior Fair Royalty.

19-year-old Nicholas Bischoff of Monroeville was crowned as king last night. He’s a student at Bowling Green State University. 18-year-old Olivia Scheid is this year’s Junior Fair Queen. She’s a recent St. Paul graduate, and will attend the Ohio State University.

 

A second 3-2 vote has been cast, in favor of hiring Will Folger as interim superintendent of the Norwalk City Schools.

The re-vote was cast, during last night’s Board of Education meeting. Before that, board members rescinded a July 29th vote to hire Folger, because of ‘potential irregularities.’ Last night’s vote was the same as before, with ‘no’ votes cast by board members Steve Linder and Ralph Ritzenthaler. Assistant superintendent Sue Goodsite was a finalist for the top job. She claimed she was offered the position, before Folger was hired.

 

A change, involving Norwalk’s Christie Avenue.

On school mornings only, left turns will be prohibited from Christie onto Norwood Avenue, and Christie onto Benedict Avenue. Signs will be posted at both ends of Christie Avenue. Norwalk Public Works Director Josh Snyder said the change will improve traffic flow at both intersections, and will increase safety for pedestrians.

 

Old State Road, between Milan Manor and State Route 601 in Milan will be closed from 7 until 3 Friday, for tree removal.

 

A Collins man has admitted to improperly receiving thousands of dollars worth of unemployment benefits.

In court this week, Matthew Clifton pleaded guilty to felony theft. As part of the plea, he’s expected to pay nearly $8,600 restitution, and he’ll likely be sent to jail with work release privileges. He’ll be sentenced in September. Clifton accepted unemployment benefits between April of 2011, and June of last year. Prosecutors said he worked about four months during that time, but continued to receive about $500 a week from the state.

 

Charges have been upgraded against a Sandusky County woman accused of hitting a pedestrian in downtown Bellevue.

62-year-old Marilyn Perry of Lindsey is now charged with aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony. She’s also charged with DUI. According to reports, Perry was drunk when she hit Pamela Beckham last Thursday evening. Beckham was standing next to her car, in front of the Bellevue Public Library. She suffered broken bones and other injuries, and was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. She remains there, in stable condition.
