The water ban is over in Toledo.
At a morning press conference, Mayor D. Michael Collins declared Toledo’s water safe to drink. Since Saturday, residents were urged not to drink, cook or wash with Toledo tap water, after tests showed high levels to toxins. Those toxins could have caused severe health problems. The ban led many Toledo residents to drive 60 miles or more for bottled water.
A Norwalk man suspected of abusing an eight-week-old girl is free on bond.
24-year-old Nathan Wohlever is charged with assault and child endangerment. He was arrested last Thursday. According to reports, the victim, an eight-week-old girl suffered bruises to the face and legs, while in Wohlever’s care. She was taken to Fisher-Titus, then to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was treated and released.
A drug bust, on the Ohio Turnpike in Milan.
Two Pennsylvania men were arrested Friday morning, after they were caught with 188 small packages of heroin. The discovery was made, after a routine traffic stop. Both men were taken to the Erie County Jail. They’re currently charged with heroin possession and trafficking.
A giant fuel spill has closed westbound U.S. Route 30 in Wayne County until Thursday or Friday.
The spill was caused by a crash involving two semi-trucks. One of the trucks was hauling 6,400 gallons of gasoline, and 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel. One of the truckers suffered burns and broken bones. He’s in critical condition.
Multiple fire departments were called on yesterday, to battle a massive house fire in Margaretta Township.
The Maple Avenue blaze broke out late yesterday afternoon. Crews from six departments fought the fire for more than three hours. Despite their efforts, the home was completely destroyed.
The State Route 99/103 Resurfacing Project is underway in Willard.
Expect one-lane of traffic. The project could last until mid-October.
State Route 2, from the Bay Bridge to Route 269 is down to one lane for resurfacing.
According to ODOT, work will last until next June.
Officials with the Democratic Party will be in Columbus this week to scout out the city for the 2016 national convention.
They will be looking at hotels, meeting sites and transportation options. Also in the running to host the Democratic National Convention: Phoenix, Philadelphia, New York City and Birmingham, Alabama. The city that winds up hosting the convention could see an economic boost of up to $200 million.
