The Winter Storm has arrived, dropping multiple inches of snow throughout the area.

More snow is likely today, with 4 to 8 more inches forecasted.

Blowing and drifting snow are making travel very difficult.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 7am Friday.

Both Erie and Huron County are under a Level 2.

Many communities have issued snow parking bans into tomorrow.

The winter storm has forced closures of schools and businesses today.

Among those…

BGSU Firelands in Huron is closed today.

Lorain County Community College is closed today as well.

City Halls in Norwalk and Sandusky will not be open today.

No trash pickup today in Norwalk.

Vermilion Municipal Court will not hold any hearings today.

With the snow and cold temperatures in the forecast, a warming shelter is reopening in Sandusky.

…At New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church on Eddy Henry Way.

It’s scheduled to be open daily from today through Sunday, from 7pm to 8am each day.

They’re also looking for volunteers to help out.

Checking COVID-19 numbers…

86-hundred cases were reported statewide on Wednesday, compared to the 21-day rolling average of 16-thousand.

In Huron County, there were 26 new cases reported yesterday.

A recently retired Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy has died.

Sergeant Steve Shupp retired at the end of last year and had started working as a probation officer with the Huron County Juvenile Court.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

A 33-year-old woman from Norwalk has been sentenced to 5 months behind bars after being ruled at fault in a fatal crash in Sandusky in 2020.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the crash took place on East Perkins Avenue near Bay View Lane, with the unnamed woman striking and killing a motorcyclist, 67-year-old David Prinkey.

Fire…on Newton Street last night in Norwalk.

According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, the blaze caused 10 to 20-thousand dollars in damage.

A 5-member family lived there, with all escaping safely.

The likely cause of the fire…candles.

This is “National Gun Violence Survivors Week”, and Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield and Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley have joined a coalition of mayors, nationwide…to raise awareness of gun violence.

The coalition says, more people die by gunfire in the U-S by this time of year, than those in other countries during the entire year.

The Lorain County Commissioners are going back to the ballot in May with an issue rejected by voters in November.

The proposal would double the county’s so-called bed tax, to raise money for construction of a moderate convention center.
