A look at COVID numbers…
Statewide, for the second day in a row, a new record high in cases was set with 12,800, besting yesterday’s total by around 300.
In Huron County, there were 83 new cases on Wednesday.

After holding 2 other drive-thru COVID-19 test distribution events in Norwalk and Willard, Huron County Public Health now has one planned in Bellevue.
It will take place December 29th from 9 to 10:30 am at the Bellevue Rec Center on Cherry Boulevard.
The first 600 cars will receive 6 free COVID tests each, while supplies last.

Due to overwhelming demand, the Ohio Department of Health is making changes to its free COVID testing process at the W-O Walker Center in Cleveland.
They’ve set up a new website to apply for an appointment.
Once that’s done, you’ll be prompted to complete registration through MAKO Labs.
Also, anyone who arrives more than 15 minutes early will be asked to return at their scheduled time.

It appears Joseph Allen of Lorain might be home for Christmas for the first time in more than 25 years.
Lorain County Judge Chris Cook has allowed Allen to post bond and be released from prison while he considers whether Allen and Nancy Smith will receive new trials.
In the mid-1990’s, Allen and Smith were charged with taking 4-and-5-year-old children on Smith’s Head Start bus route to Allen’s home in Lorain, where prosecutors said, they sexually abused them.

Ohio’s unemployment rate dropped from 5.1 percent to 4.8 percent in new figures out this week.
However, according to the Sandusky Register, Erie County ranks second in the state in unemployment rate, up a full percent this month to 5.5 percent.
Huron County had an unemployment rate of 4.3 percent.

A reminder from the State Highway Patrol regarding impaired driving around the holidays…
Troopers are urging sober driving as they will be out in full force, focusing on removing impaired drivers from the roadways to reduce crashes.
Last year, 10 fatal crashes killed 12 people during a 4-day period around Christmas, 4 of those being speed and OVI related.
Also, during that time frame, authorities made nearly 150 OVI arrests.

School officials in Elyria have announced; they plan to open the new Westwood campus on January 3rd.
It’ll serve students from kindergarten through 8th grade.

The two who operate the Sandusky Artisans Recovery Community Center have received a Key to the City from the City Commissioners.
Joey and Mary Supina run the non-profit facility that helps those with substance abuse and mental health disorders.

OH-Go is hosting their Project Happy event today in Sandusky.
Running from 4:30 to 6 pm, an OH-Go team will be delivering gifts for kids ages 2 to 19 door-to-door in select neighborhoods around the city.
For those not receiving door-to-door gifts, a drive-thru gift distribution event is taking place at the Sandusky Police Station from 4:30 to 6.
