Cleanup continues from high winds that ripped throughout the area on Saturday.

According to the Sandusky Register, some damage was done in Perkins Township, where the roof over the NAPA Auto Parts and Mikey’s Frozen Yogurt stores was destroyed.

70 mile-per-hour winds were reported in and around Sandusky.

There were no reported injuries.

Health officials said, it was only a matter of time…

The Omicron variant of COVID 19 has arrived in Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Health has confirmed 2 cases.

Meanwhile, health officials say, since the pandemic began, about 800-thousand Americans have died of COVID.

Checking COVID-19 figures…

Roughly 5,000 cases were reported Sunday statewide, lower than the 21-day rolling average of nearly 6,600.

Huron County had 21 new cases reported on Sunday.

The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal, hit-skip crash.

Troopers say, 57 year old Fred Jones Junior of Elyria was struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning on Grafton Road near Fuller in Carlisle Township.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Highway Patrol in Elyria.

A new 3-year contract for Norwalk Police Dispatchers…

According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, the contract calls for a 2.25 percent pay increase next year, 2 ½ percent in 2023 and 2 ½ percent in 2024.

A contract agreement was reached in September for firefighters and last month for Norwalk Police patrolmen, with Mayor Light’s administration’s focus now on the remaining city employees.

The City of Sandusky has named a new Fire Chief.

It’s Mario D’Amico, a 23 year veteran of the Sandusky Fire Department, where he most recently served as a captain and shift commander.

He replaces former chief Rick Wilcox, who retired in August of 2020.

A rash of vehicle entries reported all around Sandusky County…

Authorities say for residents to lock their vehicles and to never leave firearms or valuables inside vehicles.

Today, weather permitting, crews will be working on Gulf Road in Elyria, between the Elyria Wastewater Pollution Control Plant and Windbrook Drive.

In Lorain…West 39th Street will be closed west of Broadway for water work from tomorrow through Thursday.

Access will be maintained for local traffic, school buses and emergency vehicles.

A reminder about an upcoming local toy and food drive…

The drive, put on by the Willard Fire and Police Departments, will take place this upcoming weekend, December 18th and 19th from 10 to 4, at the city fire station.

Food items will go to the Willard Food Bank, while toys will go to children in need in the Willard City School District.
