A Shiloh man faces felony charges after he’s believed by authorities to have fled a fatal hit/skip crash on Sunday in Richland County.
The State Highway Patrol says that 13-year-old Luke Newswanger of Shelby was on a bicycle on Bowman Road in Cass Township when he was struck and killed by a truck believed to belong to 38-year-old Bud Thornsberry, who’s been charged with multiple felonies including aggravated vehicular assault.
Numerous tips from the public helped lead to the arrest.

A student has been charged with making a terrorist threat and inducing panic…accused of making an online threat of violence in the Elyria City Schools.
The threat led to increased police presence yesterday at Westwood Middle School.
A separate threat…in the Lorain City Schools…led police to another student…although no charges have been filed in that case.

The Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office has cleared an Elyria Police Officer, for shooting and wounding a man who had pointed a gun at another police officer.

The Erie County Health Department has issued an Overdose Spike Alert.
Health officials say there have been 3 overdose incidents in Sandusky in the last few days.
Narcan was administered in those 3 incidents; and were successfully reversed.

The date has been announced for a murder trial in Sandusky.
According to the Sandusky Register, the trial for 27-year-old Shakill Fenderson, who faces an aggravated murder charge, will begin January 10th in Erie County Common Pleas Court.
Fenderson is charged in the shooting death of 34-year-old Elisha Cannon of Sandusky in July.

Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield has sworn in Bill Pelko as the city’s new chief of police.
