The Highway Patrol now reports; two people have died, from Tuesday’s crash in New Russia Township.
Susan Van Keuren of Grafton was 65.
Mason Smith of Elyria was 28.
Troopers believe, Smith ran a stop sign at Oberlin and Russia Roads, and struck a car in which Van Keuren was a passenger.
The driver of that car…66-year-old Roy Van Keuren of Grafton…is being treated at Metro.

Two people were hurt in a 2-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Huron.
According to the State Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Jason Gooding of Huron was driving on Cleveland Road where he went left-of-center and struck the vehicle of 23-year-old Parker Keynes of Logan, Ohio head-on.
Gooding was flown to Cleveland Metro with serious injuries, while Keynes sustained minor ailments.

Ohio Operation Lifesaver, a Rail Safety Education Organization in cooperation with the Ohio Rail Development Commission and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, will be holding a safety blitz later this month.
It will happen at the East Perkins Avenue railroad crossing on October 26th from 10 am to 12 noon.
During this event, officials will be handing out informational swag bags to the vehicles when they are stopped for a train.
Ohio has ranked 9th in the nation for vehicle-train collisions for the past several years.

In Huron County, 38 new reported cases occurred on Wednesday.
130 cases were reported yesterday in Lorain County.
Statewide, close to 6,300 new cases were reported yesterday, more than the 21-day rolling average of just over 6,000.

The Lorain School Board has updated its COVID policies, based on information from Lorain County Public Health.
Lorain students who have come in close contact with people who have tested positive, will be allowed in school, as long as they wear a mask.

Elyria City Councilman Mark Jessie has pled ‘not guilty’ to a misdemeanor charge of solicitation of prostitution.
Jessie was one of 161 people arrested in a statewide ‘sting’.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and a demonstration day are expected to be announced soon for the McGuan Park Revitalization Project in Norwalk.
According to Norwalk Ohio News.com, the pour-and-play surface is scheduled to be installed this week at the all-abilities playground.
The new-look McGuan Park will likely be opened in a couple of weeks, said Norwalk Parks and Rec Superintendent Joe Lindenberger.

A $1.3 million grant has been awarded to Firelands Regional Medical Center to grow their mental health treatment services throughout 7 area counties.
Among those counties…Erie, Huron, and Lorain.
According to the Sandusky Register, the grant will go towards the restoration of clinical services hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lorain County Commissioners have voted 2 to 1, to hire Sheffield Fire Chief Jeff Young as the county’s new 9-1-1 director.
Republican Michele Hung and Democrat Matt Lundy voted in favor.
Republican Dave Moore voted no…he supported interim director Kurt Scholl, who replaced Harry Williamson in August.

In Huron County, voters can cast their ballots in the Meeting Room of the Administration Building on Milan Avenue in Norwalk.
Voters are asked to park in the back of the building and go in through Entrance C.
