The forecast is good, for the July 4th holiday weekend.

Sun is expected through Sunday, with highs of 75 tomorrow, 78 Saturday and 84 Sunday.

 

10:30 tomorrow morning is when the Norwalk Lions Club parade will get underway.

The parade route is the same as always, beginning at the Main Street School on East Main, to Benedict Avenue, Norwood Avenue, Fair Road and the Huron County Fairgrounds. Over 100 units will be in the parade. You can hear live coverage on Kool Gold 1510, WLKR.

 

Tomorrow night’s fireworks display in Norwalk will begin at dusk, at the Huron County Fairgrounds.

In Willard, fireworks will begin at 10:30 tomorrow night. Cedar Point will have two fireworks shows, at dusk tomorrow night and Saturday night.

 

Roads are expected to be busy, during the holiday weekend.

AAA says 41 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home. Increased travel means an increased law enforcement presence. Police, deputies and highway patrol troopers will be out in full force, through Sunday.

 

Traffic will be very slow-going around Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk.

The NHRA Nationals are being held there through Sunday.

 

Government offices and most banks will be closed tomorrow.

No mail and trash pickup will be delayed by one day.

 

Tomorrow will mark 45 years, since the Independence Day Flood of 1969.

Severe thunderstorms moved in that night. The front became nearly stationary, and dumped between 10 and 14 inches of rain from Toledo to Wooster. Making matters worse, the dam at the Norwalk reservoir failed, leaving much of the Maple City underwater.

 

11 people have applied to be the next superintendent of the Norwalk City Schools.

The list includes current assistant superintendent Sue Goodsite, and former Huron City Schools Superintendent Fred Fox. Two other applicants have area ties. Christine Standring is curriculum director at North Point Educational Service Center, and Scott Will is superintendent of Ashland Crestview Local Schools. The remaining seven applicants are from school districts around Ohio.Current Norwalk City Schools superintendent Dennis Doughty is retiring July 31st.

 

A former Bellevue police officer will spend 10 years behind bars, for sexual battery.

43-year-old Bradley McMahon was sentenced yesterday in Huron County Common Pleas Court. McMahon was arrested last fall, for having sex with a girl who was 17.

 

Yesterday was a big day at Cedar Point.

President and CEO Matt Ouimet (WE-met) officially rang the bell to close the day’s trading at the New York Stock Exchange.It aired live at the stock exchange, and on CNBC. Cedar Point officials also launched the park’s newest ride, Slingshot. Riders are shot 36 stories up at 60 miles per hour, before flipping and coming down. A reminder, Cedar Point is offering free admission to all active, retired and honorably discharged members of the military through Sunday. Family members are getting special discounted rates.
