EHOVE Career Center’s former culinary arts instructor has pleaded guilty to sex crimes, involving a teenage student.
48-year-old Michael Edwards of Huron now faces up to 15 years in prison, after admitting to three counts of sexual battery. He’ll be sentenced in June, in Erie County Common Pleas Court. Edwards was arrested last fall, after school officials and deputies learned of his involvement with a 16-year-old female student. Authorities learned the two had sex numerous times around Erie County, including at Edwards’ home. During the investigation, deputies learned Edwards sent sexually suggestive text messages to another student last summer. The girl turned down his advances.
Still no sign of a Bellevue man who skipped out, shortly before a sentencing hearing.
23-year-old Kenneth Jenkins was in Huron County Common Pleas Court April 17th, for sentencing on charges of forgery and receiving stolen property. He left the courtroom to use the restroom, and never returned. Judge James Conway rescheduled the hearing for Wednesday, but Jenkins failed to show again. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

A 21-year-old man with a history of mental illness is being treated at Metro after a standoff Thursday with deputies in Camden Township, east of Wakeman.
Deputies eventually used a taser to subdue Edwin Cornwell Junior of Gifford Road after they found him with a knife and an out-building on fire. So far, no charges have been filed.
Three people have been named as finalists, in the search for a new Margaretta Local Schools superintendent.
None of them area local. Randy Dunlap is principal of Clinton-Massie middle and high schools. Daniel Schroer is superintendent of the Greene County Career Center. Tim Winland is superintendent of Paint Valley Schools. All three will be interviewed for a second time tomorrow. Current Margaretta superintendent Ed Kurt is leaving for the same job in Findlay.
A Thursday morning high-speed chase ended with the arrest of a Norwalk woman.
20-year-old Jacquelin Warner is facing multiple charges connected to the chase that began in Monroeville and ended at her Spring Street home. According to reports, Warner was originally pulled over for speeding and then was told she was driving on a suspended license. That is when she took off and led Monroeville Police and Huron County Deputies along State Routes 99 and 113, Lovers Lane and Whittelsey, to Spring Street. Officers said speeds exceeded 90 miles per hour.
It’s prom weekend, at Norwalk High School.
The Norwalk Police Department will have extra patrols, to help ensure students have a safe time. Officers will work overtime, looking for drunk drivers, speeders and aggressive drivers.
Doors open tomorrow to the ‘National Great Lakes Museum’ in Toledo.
The museum was once located in Vermilion and called the Inland Maritime Museum and plans to relocate it to Lorain fell through. The new state-of-the-art facility features artifacts of the Great Lakes and interactive exhibits.
