A Fremont stabbing suspect has been arrested.

According to the Sandusky Register, 39-year-old Jason Conley was taken into custody Friday outside a restaurant in Sandusky; wanted for stabbing a man outside of a Fremont bar last month. 

The victim, a 31-year-old, was reportedly stabbed multiple times and was taken to a Toledo hospital.

 

Governor Mike DeWine has joined other state leaders to introduce the first-ever, collaborative Suicide Prevention Plan for Ohio.

Among the plan’s priorities, the state will:

  • Raise awareness of the warning signs and risk factors of suicide.
  • Concentrate efforts on integrating suicide prevention practices into health care, public safety, and education services on the local and state levels.
  • Focus prevention efforts on groups identified as having higher rates of suicide.

In Ohio five people a day die by suicide, and a youth dies by suicide every 33 hours.

 

Major improvements technology-wise are coming to Norwalk Municipal Court.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the court has received a $200,000 grant from the Ohio Supreme Court; which was applied for last summer.

The court is expected to use the funds to complete significant upgrades to their computer system; which has been in place for the last 30 years.

 

The City of Norwalk has announced a number of road closures for this week…

…On North Pleasant Street, between Jefferson and Carey…today through Friday; for a waterline project. The closure will occur during work hours; and will reopen when crews are done for the day.

Also, the 2020 Sewer Lining Project is expected to begin today, with work happening on Richard Avenue, Huron Street and Christie Avenue; which will be closed to through-traffic during working hours.  Work will continue through Friday.

 

News of an upcoming bridge closure in the Sandusky-area…

Perkins Township officials say they’ve received word from the Erie County Engineers Office that the Columbus Avenue Bridge between King and Bell Avenues will be closing March 19th for a bridge replacement.

They say to make arrangements for an alternate route; as the project is expected to make a major change in travel.

 

The Plymouth High School History Club is sponsoring a Meet and Greet event for candidates running for Ohio Senate’s 22nd District Seat.

The free event is open to the public; to be held this Thursday in the school cafeteria from 6:00 to 7:00 pm

 

Ohio’s open burning ban is now in effect. 

The Green Springs Fire Department has issued a reminder that that state law banning open burning runs March through May and also in October and November. 

If caught burning, residents could face a fine.

 

Early stages of the 2020 Census are approaching…

Starting March 12th, initial invitations will be mailed to households that have responded online, by phone or mail.

Then on March 16th, a reminder letter will be sent to all residents.

Around 20 eateries are participating through Friday; offering feature menus and tasting.
