The Ohio Department of Health reports that the number of new flu-related hospitalizations has risen again.

The 994 flu hospitalizations in Ohio from February 2nd to February 8th marks a new high for the 2019-2020 flu season and a 19% increase over the previous flu reporting week.

These numbers bring the total Ohio hospitalizations since the season began at the end of September to over 5,400, and are more than double the hospitalizations reported during the same week of last year’s flu season.

 

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating what led to the death of two workers…one of them from Lorain… at a workplace site in Cleveland.

The feds say, it appears 30 year old Ashley Friedman and another man were cleaning a semi-trailer-tanker when they were overcome by fumes.

 

A red-letter day in the Keystone School System…

Keystone has become the first district in Lorain, Erie and Huron Counties to win statewide recognition for a behavioral program implemented at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

The P-B-I S program is designed to reduce problem-behavior, increase academic performance, and reduce bullying.

 

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to beware of websites that say they you can be certified for a concealed carry permit in minutes.

Those sites are not valid; according to authorities.

They say to check with The Ohio Attorney General’s Office for a list of qualified local instructors. 

 

A police officer from Kelley’s Island has been criminally charged.

According to the Sandusky Register, 29-year-old Amanda Myers was arrested earlier this month on multiple charges; including driving while intoxicated, after backing into another vehicle outside of a Parma bar.

Her employment is set to be reviewed by Kelley’s Island city council.

 

A vacant house fire near New London is under investigation.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that no was hurt in the blaze on Murray Road that was put out by Townsend Township and Norwalk firefighters.

The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information regarding several illegal entries near Memory Marina in Fremont.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Darling from the Sheriff’s Office.

 

News out of Governor Mike DeWine’s office…

The governor has signed House Bill 129…allowing motorcycle drivers to wear earphones or earplugs for hearing protection while operating their cycle.

 

A new red sticker will soon be affixed to most gas pumps in the state

These stickers itemize the taxes included in the price of a gallon of fuel in order to inform the consumer. 

The approximately four-inch by four-inch stickers will show a breakdown of state, local and federal taxes that are being levied on gasoline and diesel fuels, along with the total tax amount.

 

A local State Highway Patrol employee has been recognized for work excellence.

Administrative Professional Michelle Hall of the Milan Post has received the ‘Employee Recognition Award’. 

Hall, a former U.S. Marine, joined the patrol in October of 2005.
