The Indians won their season-opener, topping the Oakland A’s, 2-0.

Game two of the three game series is set for 10:05 tonight.  You can hear it live on 95.3, WLKR.  Cory Kluber will start for the Indians, opposite former Tribe Pitcher Scott Kazmir.

 

State officials have extended the deadline, for help with high winter heating bills.

The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program was scheduled to end yesterday. The new deadline is April 15th.

 

Early voting period begins today throughout Ohio.

In-person voting hours are 8am until 5pm Monday through Friday, 8am until 9pm Monday, April 7th and Saturday May 3rd, between 8am and noon. Registered voters may also request a ballot by mail. The primary election is May 6th.

 

An area man has been sentenced to prison, for stealing from area homes, businesses and churches.

51-year-old Thomas Spurlock of Sandusky was sentenced yesterday to 10 years and two months behind bars. Authorities said the drug-fueled crime spree occurred last spring. He was arrested on 20 charges.

 

Tonight’s when Norwalk City Council will honor the state champion Norwalk Truckers boys’ basketball team.

City Council will pass a resolution, commending players and coaches. The Truckers won the Division II state title last month, by beating Columbus Bishop Watterson 65-58. A podcast of the game is available on our website, wlkrradio.com.

 

The city of Norwalk’s compost facility on Austie Shadle Drive near Baines Park will open for the season this Friday.

It’ll be open through November on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am until 6pm.  City residents can take extra yard waste to the compost pile.  Anyone using the compost facility must show proof of city residency, such as a driver’s license.  It’s for residential use only, not commercial use.

 

 

A bar owner is in hot water, for allowing underage drinking in his establishment.

Eugene McDuffy owns DJ’s Sports Bar in Sandusky. He’s been charged with three counts of permitting underage consumption, plus permitting a curfew violation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was charged over the weekend, after police noticed three drunken teenage girls stumble outside the Cleveland Road bar. The girls are facing charges of underage consumption, curfew violation and obstruction.

 

A look ahead to 2015…

Officials are working on plans to demolish Willard High School. It’s expected to come down late next year. 2015-2016 classes will be held in the new building.

 

Plymouth is in need of volunteers, to help plan the village’s 200th birthday celebration in 2015.

A meeting will be held next Tuesday at 7pm in the village hall. The birthday party may be held the same weekend as the annual Fireman’s Festival.

 

Drivers who use the Ohio Turnpike will start seeing more orange barrels this week.

Turnpike officials say the list of projects includes repaving about six miles of the turnpike, near Clyde.
