The Highway Patrol Post in Sandusky is investigating a one vehicle crash that killed a Port Clinton woman.

According to the Patrol, on Wednesday, 45-year-old Stephanie Ochsenbine failed to negotiate a curve on South Plasterbed Road at East Schiewe Road in Ottawa County…going off the road and then striking a sign and tree.

 

The body of a missing Medina fisherman has been found…nearly a month after his disappearance.

According to authorities, 46-year-old Robin Eckelberry’s body was discovered Saturday in Lake County, just northwest of Painesville.

Eckelberry had been missing since September 1st, when he left for a fishing trip early that morning.

 

Huron County Safe Communities Coalition has rescinded information from their Fatal Crash report for September…

Updated information shows that 3 fatal crashes resulted in 3 deaths last month.

…This…correcting a previous reported 5 fatal crashes and 5 deaths.

Two of those were as a result of failure to yield and 1 was as a result of going left of center.

Officials say that in 2 of the crashes, the victims were not wearing a safety belt.

Crash fatalities in Huron County are up by 6 fatalities from this time last year.

 

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for more information on a man and woman arrested Thursday for burglary.

They say that Carlos Cofield and Melissa Feltner were apprehended in Berlin Township…and believe that the two are responsible for more burglaries in the area.

 

Firefighters in Elyria spent most of Thursday containing a fire in the 1400 block of Lowell Street after a falling power line ignited a leak in a natural gas line.

Columbia Gas says they are investigating whether there was a leak in the area prior to the incident.

 

An Indiana man faces a year of prison time after being accused of making inappropriate contact with young girls at Kalahari Resorts.

According to the Sandusky Register, Brandon Arven previously pled guilty to gross sexual imposition in connection with an alleged incident last December at a Kalahari arcade.

 

Residents of Elyria got to know three of the mayoral candidates a little better after last night’s debate.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, current mayor Holy Brinda recounted her accomplishments in the seat, Independent candidate Frank Whitfield talked about his plans for Economic development…and former mayor Bill Grace touched on how he wants to improve the quality of the city.

 

EHOVE Career Center in Milan is opening its doors to former students, aspiring students and parents of students this Sunday…

They’re hosting an open house and car show from 10 am to 1 pm…featuring a complimentary brunch and a tour of the EHOVE campus.

 

The Ohio Rail Development Commission has authorized construction of railroad crossing upgrades in Huron County.

A project involving the installation of flashing lights and gates is coming to the crossing on U.S. 224, just west of Greenwich…which is expected to be completed in the next 12 months.

The project was put into place following a review that determined the current warning devices needed to be upgraded.

 

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has announced the launch of two scientific projects aimed at reducing the number of people who succumb to substance use disorder.

One involves a study to identify the genetic factors that may make an individual more prone to developing an opioid addiction…the other, a task force aimed at identifying and developing new prevention techniques and strategies.

 

A parade to honor firefighters who have lost their lives is scheduled for Sunday in Sandusky.

The ‘Silent Alarm’ parade is set to start at 5:30 pm…heading north on Columbus Avenue to the 300 block at the site of the Erie County Firefighters Memorial…with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 pm. 

It marks the beginning of Fire Prevention Week.
