A two-vehicle crash Thursday in Ottawa County resulted in two deaths.

The State Highway Patrol says 25-year-old Austin Lepole of Lakeside Marblehead failed to yield at a stop sign in a van…and was struck by a motorcycle driven by 73-year-old Wayne Keller of Elmore. 

The crash took place in Danbury Township at the intersection of East Bay Shore Road and South Danbury North Road.

Keller and his passenger were killed. 

Lepole was not hurt. 

 

A Greenwich man was hurt in a one-vehicle crash overnight in Huron County.

The State Highway Patrol says Kyle Vogel ran a stop sign on Town Line Road 12 at Rome Greenwich Road in Greenwich Township…striking a guardrail, a tree, and a ditch…before ending up in a creek.

Vogel was ejected from the vehicle…and was flown to Cleveland Metro hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and speed are suspected factors.

 

The State Highway Patrol has announced the time and location of tonight’s OVI Checkpoint in Huron County.

It will take place from 9 to 11pm on U.S. 250 near Lais Road.

The checkpoint is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

 

A Brunswick man…accused of killing a woman 3 years ago…may be heading to trial in late September.

Court dates are now scheduled for 69-year-old Richard Berger.

He has pled ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ in the death of 25-year-old Starr Pawliczka.

Berger has said, Pawliczka had temporarily moved in with him.

A man extradited from Florida has been sentenced to prison time in connection with a Sandusky man’s drug overdose death.

According to the Sandusky Register, Dustin Houser was given the max sentence of three years behind bars following the death of 37-year-old Shawn Taylor in June of 2017.

Police investigators at the time said Taylor was given a dangerous dose of a fentanyl-based narcotic by Houser.

 

Norwalk Police are looking to hire a few crossing guards.

They say one full-time and two substitute positions are available…covering five intersections in the city during the school year.

Those interested may apply in person at the Norwalk Police Department.

 

Help could be on the way when it comes to eliminating robocalls.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced yesterday that 12 phone service providers have agreed to adopt anti-robocall practices as part of an initiative with his office and 50 other attorneys general.

 

Tomorrow, the Lorain Historical Society will host its final program of the summer, marking the 95th anniversary of the tornado that tore through Sandusky, then downtown Lorain.

Tomorrow’s program will begin at 11 at the Carnegie Center.

 

The Gathering Place of Westlake and Beachwood is launching a new initiative, to provide free programs for people touched by cancer in the neighborhoods where they live, through collaborations with hospitals and community organizations.

The launch…made possible by a 250-thousand-dollar donation from Karen Lipman Steiger…she’s a volunteer at the Gathering Place…

Her mother died of lymphoma…she was one of the original supporters of the Gathering Place.

-The Lorain County Fair in Wellington and the Sandusky County Fair in Fremont come to a close on Sunday.

-The annual Marblehead Lion’s Perch Festival takes place Saturday at James Park.

-The Cedar Point Boat Show continues through Sunday at the Cedar Point Marina.
