The National Weather Service in Cleveland has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down briefly in Norwalk on Monday.

Weather officials say it happened a little after 5:00 pm…with the tornado traveling a mile-and-a-half in the area of South Norwalk Road, U.S. 20 and U.S. 250…going northeast past Fisher-Titus Medical Center, ending at the reservoir.

Peak winds were estimated at 100 miles-per-hour…causing some damage to trees. 

No serious injuries were reported.

 

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who reportedly set fire to a house near Olena. 

They say the incident took place this past Monday around 11:30 pm at the address of 499 U.S. Route 250. 

Those who might have information are asked to contact authorities. 

 

The Lorain County Grand Jury has indicted a man from Lorain, for a bank robbery in July.

43-year-old Christopher Stanley is accused of robbing the Northwest Savings Bank on North Ridge Road in Elyria Township.

He’s being held in the Lorain County Jail.

 

Cuts could be on the way for Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools…as voters narrowly rejected an emergency levy request on Tuesday. 

Numbers from the Ottawa County Board of Elections show a margin of just 52 votes. 

The 3.9 mill property tax levy would’ve generated $1.5 million a year for five years. 

 

Road work in Huron County to tell you about…

A paving project is scheduled to continue today on New State and Peru-Olena Roads.

Delays are likely.

 

Firelands Regional Medical Center has recognized a local fire department for outstanding work. 

City of Sandusky firefighters have been bestowed with the 2019 American Heart Association – EMS Silver Plus Award. 

 

High school football season is about 3 weeks away…and Willard has announced their plans once again to pay tribute to the nation’s armed forces. 

On Friday night September 13th, the Crimson Flashes will host Seneca East in the ‘Battle of 224’…and it will be ‘Military Appreciation Night’. 

It all gets started with a military-themed tailgate party and an ice cream and dessert social for all local vets.

All military veterans will then be asked to line the field as the teams are introduced. 

The game will be broadcasted live on 95-3 WLKR; which will include an extended military-night-themed pregame show.

 

The City of Norwalk has announced that a “Maple-City-Wide” garage sale will take place on Labor Day Weekend.

Dozens of sales are planned…lasting Friday, August 30th through Monday, September 2nd.

Those interested can register at City Hall.
