Authorities say they’ve found the body of a missing 29-year-old Vermilion woman who disappeared Sunday in the waters of Huron’s Nickel Plate Beach.

Huron Police say they received a call from a landscaper around 11 Thursday morning about a body on the rocks of the Lake Erie Shoreline; who was identified as Brittany Young. 

The discovery was made about a mile or two from the beach where Young was last seen.

This comes after an 18-year-old Ashland man drowned at Nickel Plate Beach around two weeks ago.

 

The Highway Patrol continues its investigation into this week’s chain-reaction crash on Route 2 near Route 58 in Lorain County.

Troopers say, a work van driven by 48-year-old Brian Bellan of Lorain struck a car, which then hit an SUV driven by JanMarie Miller of Castalia.

Miller…and four children in her vehicle…were taken to Metro.

A three-year-old has been released…the others remain in critical condition.

 

A Sandusky pastor accused of sexually abusing three children will be getting a third trial…

According to the Sandusky Register, a mistrial was declared in Erie County Common Pleas Court Thursday in the second trial for 58-year-old Richard Mick of Castalia, who worked for Sandusky Lighthouse Church…and is charged with rape and gross sexual imposition. 

The mistrial came after a request from Mick’s defense involving a police report they said they did not receive. 

He was originally convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the crimes in 2016; but that was overturned due to Mick’s claims of receiving ineffective counsel.

 

It appears, voters in Medina County will elect a new sheriff in November.

The current sheriff…70-year-old Tom Miller…tells the Medina Gazette, he does not plan to seek re-election, after a 45 year career in law enforcement.

 

State Highway Patrol troopers seized $7,500 worth of Oxycodone pills during a recent traffic stop in Richland County.

45-year-old Romulus Tabor of Mansfield was charged with possession and trafficking in drugs after authorities say they found over 450 pills in his vehicle.

Tabor faces up to 16 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.

 

The Ohio State Fair has opened in Columbus, but one ride has not, and 4 others are on hold.

This…after inspections earlier this week…

The Ohio Department of Agriculture says, severe corrosion was found on a ferris-wheel-type ride, and repairs are needed on 4 other ones.

Two years ago, a ride broke apart, killing an 18 year old man and injuring 7 others.

 

Updates on roadwork in Norwalk…

The city says their resurfacing project will include paving today on Rule Street between Marshall and Wooster as well as Old West Main between State Route 61 and Main Street…and then continue onto Norwood and Executive Drive next week. 

On Monday, the city says that curbing will begin on Phase 3 of the Old State Road Widening Project…occurring between Akron and Cleveland Roads.

The city is asking drivers to avoid work areas if possible.

Norwalk’s “4th Friday” arts, music and shopping event takes place this evening.

The Village of Shiloh plays host to their 53rd annual Fireman’s Ox Roast today and tomorrow…and the annual Wakeman Firefighter’s Homecoming Festival goes on Saturday and Sunday.

Living History Weekend and a military vehicle show take over Port Clinton’s Liberty Aviation Museum on Saturday and Sunday.

Sandusky’s Strobel Field plays host to the “Mama Collins Blue and White Classic” fundraiser football game Saturday night.
