A local radio leader passed away Tuesday…

Dave Mehling was 78.

Mehling helped purchase WLKR radio before taking the reigns as General Manager at WLEC in 1975.

He spent over 50 years in the radio business overall; including his later years helping call high school sports with Mark Fogg and others on ‘LEC.

 

A Wellington police officer faces charges after a one-car crash Sunday…believed to be a suicide attempt.

According to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, 35 year old Richard Nysel drove off a bridge on Route 60 in Florence Township.

He was taken to Firelands Regional Medical in Sandusky for a mental health evaluation.

 

Rosperts Market of Norwalk has announced a voluntary recall of nearly 23-thousand pounds of beef, pork, and lamb products that were possibly produced with the use of a water supply that failed to meet the Ohio Department of Health’s microbiological standards for private water systems in Ohio.

The beef, pork, and lamb products were produced between May 21st and June 17th, and also sold through Smith’s Country Counter on Lehigh Road in Norwalk.

 

The school board at New London Local Schools has agreed to a resolution to again place a 2.9 mill, five-year permanent improvement levy on this November’s ballot.

That also includes general bonds of $6.7 million.

The Norwalk Reflector reports that the levy money would be used for various improvements including security upgrades and roof repairs; while the money from the bonds would go towards building a stadium and field house.

Residents voted against the 2.9 mill levy last November.

 

Slow down…says the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office…especially if you’re driving County Road 175, just east of Clyde.

A number of citations were issued there yesterday morning after complaints were made by residents.

They say they’ll also have extra patrol on the roads come next month with a focus on travelers during the 4th of July…with a focus on distracted and impaired driving, seat belt violations and speeding.

 

City Hall in Sandusky is on the move…and that means residents will need to go to a new location to pay their sewer and water bills.

The city says customer accounting is relocating from their current spot on Meigs Street to their new home on Columbus Avenue…beginning Monday.

Residents have until this Friday at noon to make their payments at the Meigs Street office before the transition.

Payments can also still be made online.

 

A one-day Huron County road closure to tell you about…

According to The Ohio Department of Transportation, U.S. 224 between Lane and Greenwich Milan Township Roads will be closed today for railroad crossing repairs.

Officials say the road is expected to be back open on Friday.

 

The numbers are in, and they show, Lorain County is getting older…now ranking in the top-10 statewide, in the percentage of people, 65 and older.

According to the U-S Census Bureau, that segment of Lorain County’s population has more than doubled since 1980.

A state senate committee led by Republicans has removed language regarding so-called “Academic Distress Commissions” from their version of the state budget.

The state house previously endorsed language that would eliminate Academic Distress Commissions and return local control to school boards in Lorain, Youngstown and East Cleveland.

The house and the senate have 10 days to work out their differences, and approve a state budget.
