Level 2 snow emergencies remain in effect for Huron, Lorain, Richland, Sandusky and Seneca counties.

Erie and Ashland counties are under a Level 1 snow emergency.

 

A small break from snow…But some forecasters say another storm is brewing and could hit here Saturday night.

As far as Tuesday night and yesterday’s storm…13 inches of snow fell in Berlin Heights.  In Norwalk, it was 7 inches of snow.

 

The City of Norwalk’s parking ban has been lifted.

 

The Norwalk Fire Department is asking residents to clear snow around fire hydrants.

Hydrants need to be visible and uncovered from snow and there needs to be a clear path for access.

 

When it comes to snow days for the 2013-2014 school year, Bellevue has used the most, 12.

Among area schools, EHOVE Career Center has used the fewest, 7.

 

If you’re a Columbia Gas customer, get ready for higher bills.

Due to unusually cold temperatures, residential Columbia Gas customers will pay 20 percent more for natural gas this month and 50 percent more than this time last year.  If below-normal temperatures continue, the cost could rise even more.

 

Perkins police say a fatal shooting at a home on Columbus Avenue was likely suicide.

Police were summoned to the home at Columbus and Cedar Brook Lane at 9 last night. Police are still investigating.

 

A semi-truck crash near Bellevue briefly shut down one lane of eastbound U.S. Route 20 last night.

According to reports, the rig jackknifed shortly after 6pm near Sand Hill Road.  The driver wasn’t hurt.  Bellevue firefighters were called on to clean up diesel fuel that spilled from the truck.

 

CVS Pharmacy has announced plans to stop selling tobacco and tobacco products, at all of its 7,600 locations nationwide.

CVS will phase out cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco by October 1st. The move is expected to cost CVS up to $2 billion dollars annually. Officials said yesterday that the nation’s second largest drug store chain wants to focus more on providing healthcare.

 

Yesterday was the deadline to file petitions with the board of elections, for May 6th primary races and issues.

Among the issues: The Norwalk City Schools ‘five-for-five’ levy, and a 5.4 mill renewal for the Willard City Schools. In the city of Norwalk, two charter amendments will appear on the May 6th ballot. One would change city council terms from two to four years. The other would change the process used to select police and fire chiefs. There will be a primary race for Huron County Commissioner. Incumbent Republican Joe Hintz is being challenged by Bob Morgan. The winner will face Democrat Dennis Stieber in November.

 

Changes could be coming to the University of Akron.

School officials want to suspend 55 programs, including bachelors degrees in theater arts and geography and masters degrees in urban studies and physics…based on lack of demand, completion rates and research levels.

 

Hundreds of Texas Hold’Em players will head to Kalahari next weekend for the 8th annual North Coast Super Saturday Poker Championship.
