Erie-Lorain County/Charges could be filed against wrong-way driver

A person could be held responsible for the death of a Sandusky man in a wrong-way head-on crash last February.

2008 Huron High School grad, 28-year-old Jeff Baur, died weeks after being struck by a wrong-way driver on I-90; who’s believed by authorities to have been under the influence during the crash.

According to the Sandusky Register, police in Sheffield Village are getting set to hand over a case to the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office…where it will be presented to a grand jury who’ll determine if there’s enough evidence to file a charge of vehicular homicide against the other driver.

 

Erie-Huron County/Election Results

Results are in from the primaries and special elections held yesterday…

In Huron County…in the Republican primary for mayor of Norwalk…current mayor Rob Duncan defeated Dave Wallace with 63-percent of the vote.  Duncan will face Democrat Dave Light in the fall.

Both Plymouth Village levies failed in Huron County…for current expenses and streets and roads.

In Erie County, voters approved both school levies…for Huron (714-159) and Margaretta (242-136).

Lorain County/Carbon monoxide forces voters outside

In Lorain, an apparent carbon monoxide build-up at the Italian American Veterans Post 1 on Oberlin Avenue prompted

The Board of Elections to move voting machines, outdoors.

It happened near the end of voting.

One poll worker was taken to the hospital due to the fumes.

 

State News/Turnpike to show support for law enforcement

24 facilities along the Ohio Turnpike will be bathed in blue light today through next Thursday the 16th to demonstrate support for law enforcement.

…This includes the Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

It’s part of the ‘Light Ohio Blue’ campaign throughout the state.

Businesses and residents are encouraged to show their support for law enforcement in various ways…such as…by placing a blue bulb on their porch light, wrap blue lights around their building and by wearing blue on May 15th.

 

State News/Toledo nurses picketing

Some nurses in Toledo are spending National Nurses Week on the picket line.

More than 2-thousand nurses, technicians and support staff at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center walked off the job Monday, in a contract dispute.

 

Erie County/Sandusky Code Compliance Public Forums

The City of Sandusky holds their second of three code compliance public forums with a focus this evening on zoning…and transient rentals.

It takes place at 5:00 pm at City Hall in the first floor conference room.

One more forum is scheduled for June 5th.
