Erie-Huron County/Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” event in Norwalk today
The American Red Cross of Northeast Ohio’s “Sound the Alarm” smoke alarm campaign will be visiting Norwalk today.
Volunteers will be going door-to-door to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms and help families create home fire escape plans.
It happens from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
They’ll also be in Lorain on Wednesday from noon to 5:00 pm.
Erie County/Construction continues on U.S. 6
The Ohio Department of Transportation has provided some updates on two road construction projects in Erie County this week…
They say U.S. 6, just west of Cedar Point Road, will remain closed this week for a culvert replacement. It originally had been scheduled to reopen last week. The road is now expected to reopen this Friday; but still remains weather dependent and subject to change.
Also, U.S. 6, from the Sandusky County line to the City of Sandusky corporation limits, will have sporadic single lane closures for a resurfacing project. The project is expected to be completed in August.
Huron County/Early voting hours
Tomorrow is Primary/Special Election Day…
In Huron County, you have one more chance to vote early, today from 8 to 2.
There are two things to vote for in Huron County, depending on your party and where you live…a Republican ballot for the Norwalk Mayoral race and an issues ballot for Plymouth Village.
Local News/Mosquitoes
With warmer temps and wet weather, the mood is just right for Mosquitoes to populate.
Despite the perfect weather for the winged pests, Lorain County Public Health’s Scott Pozna says there are steps you can take to protect yourself…
…Such as wearing mosquito repellent…and by attempting to stop the breeding of mosquitoes by eliminating standing water around your home.
Huron/Norwalk hydrant flushing
The City of Norwalk will begin spring hydrant flushing this week.
The project will last around two weeks.
Flushing may result in cloudy or discolored water.
The city says that residents should run cold water for approximately 15 minutes or until water is clear.
Sandusky County/Extra patrols this month
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office says they’ll have extra patrol on the roads this month.
They’ll be promoting safety among drivers as well as drawing awareness to other traffic during prom season and the “Click it or Ticket” seat belt campaign.
The increase in workforce is being paid for through a state grant.
Lorain County/Black River Clean Up
Despite some soggy weekend weather, volunteers gathered in Lorain and along the shores for the seventh annual Black River Clean up.
With a goal of pulling 100 tons of trash from the river, crews worked to eliminate everything from a camper, a pickup, a lawn mower seat and more from the water.
Erie County/Voting for Sandusky USA Today’s “Best Coastal Small Town”
Just a few hours left to vote Sandusky for USA Today’s “Best Coastal Small Town”…
Voting is open through 12 noon today.
Sandusky has been near the top of the list throughout the contest.
