Lorain County/Home-robbery murder trial
The trial of a Lorain man, accused of killing another during a 2016 home-robbery, is underway in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.
Prosecutors claim, 28 year old Elliot Kirkland entered the apartment of Jimmy Holland Junior on Lexington Drive, shot him three times, and took 5-thousand-dollars.
Lorain County/Woman facing criminal charges for wrong-way crash
Police in Avon have charged a North Royalton woman with ‘aggravated vehicular assault’ and ‘OVI’ after a wrong-way crash on I-90 earlier this month.
Police say, Jennifer Quinn was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-90 near Route 611 just after midnight, January 2nd.
Quinn and the driver of the other car were hurt.
She’s due in court next week.
Erie County/Sandusky’s new medical marijuana facility now open
One of just a few medical marijuana facilities in Ohio opened for business in Sandusky yesterday.
According to the Sandusky Register, folks began lining up several hours before the 9:00 am opening of The Forest Sandusky on Tiffin Avenue.
Doctors can suggest medicinal marijuana for about 20 medical conditions such as AIDS, cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
State News/Brown introduces bill to give low-wage federal contractors back pay
Financial help could be on its way to certain workers affected by the partial government shutdown.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown along with fellow senator has introduced legislation that aims to assist low-wage federal contractor employees—including janitorial, food, and security services workers—who have been furloughed or have accepted reduced work hours.
Huron County/Norwalk City Council doings
A couple of items from Norwalk City Council…
The Norwalk Reflector reports that council has agreed to a three-year collective bargaining deal with the police union; bringing an annual two-and-a-half percent pay increase, starting this year.
Council has also approved an ordinance to advertise for bids for the half-million-dollar Old State Road widening project; which includes new curbs and drainage systems from Cleveland to Akron roads.
Lorain County/Elyria library branch birthday
The West River Branch of the Elyria Public Library System will celebrate its 25th anniversary tomorrow.
A party for all ages will be held tomorrow from 1 until 3, and will feature ‘live’ music from the Blu Monkey Jazz Band.
Local News/Boat Show opens with “Island Day” and “Put-in-Bay” night
The 2019 edition of the Progressive Cleveland Boat Show at the IX-Center opened this afternoon…with an island theme.
It’s ‘Island Day’ and “Put-in-Bay Night” at the show…featuring live musicians that locals are used to hearing on Put-in-Bay; as well as famous food such as fresh Lobster Bisque.
The show runs through Monday with a tribute to Kelley’s Island on Sunday.
