Local News/Election results

Statewide, Issue 1, voters sided against the reduction of penalties for drug possession.

The Republican ticket of Mike DeWine and Jon Husted won Ohio’s race for governor.

Sherrod Brown will keep his U.S. Senator seat; defeating Jim Renacci.

State Representative, Republican Steve Ardnt of Port Clinton won re-election in the Ohio House, beating challenger, Democrat Joe Helle.

State Representative, Incumbent, Republican Dick Stein of Norwalk, defeated James Johnson of Willard.

Incumbent Jim Jordan defeated Janet Garrett in the 4th Congressional District race. Incumbent Bob Gibbs also kept his seat in the 7th District over Ken Harbaugh.

In the race for Ohio Senate District 13 featuring parts of Huron County, Republican Nathan Manning defeated Democrat Sharon Sweda.

In Huron County, the three-candidate race for commissioner was won by incumbent Joe Hintz over challengers Melissa James and Bob Morgan.

The Huron County Auditor race went to incumbent, Roland Tkach.

All monetary issues passed in Huron County except for New London Schools.  Those approved included levies for the Board of Developmental Disabilities, Senior Services, Norwalk City and Monroeville Schools and Norwalk and Willard Police.

In Erie County, all money issues were approved by voters including levies for Sandusky City and Vermilion Schools, Castalia Police and Perkins Township roads.

Republican and local radio news guy, Steve Shoffner, won the Erie County commissioner’s seat over Democrat Julie Farrar.

 

Sandusky County/ Serious injury crash

Multiple injuries in a crash last night in Sandusky County…

According to the Highway Patrol, a Lexus driven by a Cleveland resident tried to pass a vehicle on Ohio 412 in Townsend Township; traveled left of center and sideswiped an oncoming vehicle, driven by 56-year-old Nancy Derby of Fremont.

The Lexus reportedly slid off the road and caught on fire; with both of its occupants escaping before the blaze.

Another car driven by 22-year-old Drew Solander of Fremont was hit by debris.

 

Erie County/Teenage boy charged with domestic violence

A 13-year-old boy in Perkins Township was charged with domestic violence from a reported incident Saturday with a family member.

Perkins Police say the boy’s grandparents said he got into an argument with his grandmother about chores; with him then yelling profanities and hitting her in the chest before running away.

The boy was taken to the Erie County Juvenile Justice Center.

 

Huron County/Willard schools to honor community veterans

Willard High School is hosting a Veteran’s Day Program today…

The event features a light breakfast for all local vets as well as guest speaker, retired U.S. Army Colonel and Willard High School Alum Daniel Barnett.

 

Huron County/Formal closing of original fire station 

A private “last call” service is being held today to signal the formal closing of Norwalk’s original fire station, built in 1912.

Last night, fire officials transported the last bit of items from the old station to the new facility on Whittlesey Avenue.
