Erie County/Perkins police officers recognized

Five law enforcement officials were recently honored by the Perkins Police Department for their efforts during a home invasion.

Sergeant Martin Curran and Officers Jordan Fraley and Joshua Lanyi were given the Silver Star Award.

Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Sergeant and Dispatcher Tannya Brotherton were recipients of the Chief’s Award.

The honors are for officials who perform an exceptional act amid great danger.

No one was hurt on October 2nd when two men, one of them armed, held a family hostage on Campbell Street…with the two suspects arrested.

 

State News/ Latest job numbers

Counties throughout the area saw their unemployment rate fall, according to the latest figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Huron County dropped to 4.3 percent in September from 4.6 in August.

Erie County fell slightly to 4.6 percent from 4.7.

Lorain County saw a decent decrease, dropping from 5.5 percent in August to 4.6 in September.

Sandusky County dropped from 4.1 to 3.8 percent.

Ottawa County fell from 4.6 percent to 4.2.

 

State News/House Bill 70

The Ohio Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case involving the infamous House Bill 70.

The state law basically allows the state to take over struggling school-systems…something they’ve done twice…in Youngstown, and more recently, Lorain.

Both school boards and several other groups contend that the law is unconstitutional.

 

Erie County/Naturalization ceremony held at Sandusky High School

45 new American citizens took part in a naturalization ceremony Wednesday at Sandusky High School.

It marked the second time since 2009 that the school hosted the event; which included people from over 20 countries.

 

Erie County/U.S. 6 open house today

Have concerns or complaints involving U.S. 6, from Sycamore Line in Sandusky to Rye Beach Road in Huron?

County officials are hosting an open house tonight at Castaway Bay in Sandusky to address issues that residents may have.

The public is invited to attend between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.

 

Erie County/Central Park rededication ceremony today

Sandusky residents are invited to attend a rededication ceremony this evening to show off improvements to Central Park.

The event happens at 5:30 pm on the green space near Cameo Pizza on West Monroe Street.

Upgrades include a larger basketball court as well as new playground equipment and picnic shelter.

AAA (Triple-A) East Central’s Winter Car Care Checklist includes looking at your battery, tires, wiper blades and washer fluid.

The agency also says you should put together an emergency kit – with items such as water, a car charger, first-aid supplies, blankets and jumper cables.
